Hi KAYJAYEM...
It's simple, and you don't need a lift, but a set of drive-on ramps would sure help... and a good drop light. Good lighting is a must, if you want to do good work.
I paid $2.05 at a Volvo dealer's parts counter (I get a professional discount... the parts might cost you around $5.00). All you need is the gasket (for the flange that connects to the turbo), and the o-ring (which is actually a square cross section ring about an inch in diameter) which seals the oil return line where it goes into the engine. The newest o-rings are green in color.
The flange on the turbo is held on with two bolts, and there is a clamp with one bolt which secures the return line to a couple other steel lines.
Once you have removed all the bolts, it takes a bit of gentle prying to get the turbo oil return line free, but don't be afraid... just wiggle things around a bit, pull the flange away from the turbo, and then just pull the line out of the engine. The old o-ring should come off with the line.
Make sure to clean the mating surfaces of the oil return line flange and turbo, as well as the line itself in the area where the new o-ring will seal. And remember to look into the hole in the engine that the return line came out of. Be sure that there are no remaining pieces of the old o-ring, or any other gunk.
The gasket on the turbo flange goes on dry, but a bit of RTV or some other gasket sealant works well on the o-ring. Put the o-ring onto the return line, spread a bit of RTV all around it, then carefully insert it into the hole in the rear of the engine, being sure to get the o-ring properly seated. Then slide the gasket into place on top of the flange, and carefully insert and tighten the two bolts. Put the clamp on last. When you have the whole thing reassembled, clean all the oil off the outside of the engine, oil pan, or anywhere else it might have migrated. A can of Brakleen will do the job nicely. Wear eye protection!!!
Good luck
Marty
