alternator brush replacement 850

I need to change the alternator brushes on my 94 850 (w/212K mile). My plan was to but a new voltage regulator, and try to swap it out with the alternator in place...can I do this, or do I really need to remove the alt from the car...it is a tight squezze in there, but otherwise I have to pull the ps pump to get the alt out...advice?

The 850 alternator has external brushes. It's a tight fit but just remove the plastic end cover and you should be able to do it with the alternator in place. Be sure to disconnect the battery cable first.
