850 AC recharge 850

Does anyone know how to bypass/disable the low-pressure cutoff valve in order to recharge the AC on an 850 (ie. to get the compressor cycling when it has low pressure)? Where exactly is the switch and how do you bypass it?

thanks,

Hi JLC,

THe low pressure switch is on the upper a/c pipe in the engine compartment close to the fire wall on 850s from 1994 up. '93 850s in the U.S.it is on the same pipe but not always at the fire wall.

Unplug the wire connector and jump the 2 contactc together. If you dont have a jumper handy get an industrial size all metal paper clip. Wrap the paper clip with electrical tape leaving about 1/16 of the ends exposed and push the ends into the 2 connectors making a closed loop for the electricity to go from one connector to the other. You should see the compressor clutch start immediatly.
This will enable the system to take in the freon. Once you have enough in, reconnect the wire connector to the low pressure switch and it should work normal.

Shouldn't have to short the switch connection to get it going unless your pressure switch is bad. I have to add a can of coolant every few weeks and my compressor doesn't stay on long when I first open the can. Try shaking the can and turning it upside down a few times. Don't leave it that way but a few SHORT inversions may help. If you can, set the coolant can it the warmest place possible. I have a rather long recharge hose and can put it on top of the intake manifold behind the radiator. The warm air helps increase the can pressure.
