alternator rebuild? 850 1994

Has anyone replaced the brushes on a volvo(bosch) 100 amp alternator for an 850. I understand the brushes can be replaced but that accessremoval of the alternator is somewaht tricky. Any sources for the replacement brushes??

Thanks
Jim

The 850 alternator is a nice design with external brushes. It's a little cramped but if you're reasonably skilled you can do the job without removing the unit.

fixit2003,
Where can I buy these Volvo brushes?
I have used my car alternators for long time without having single issue by just replacing new brushes so far (Ford Tarus, GM, 1 Lexus, and 2 Toyota Camrys). I also replaced many brushes for my friends' cars. I am very interested in replacing my Volvo S80 alternator and starter brushes only without spending a big money. If anyone knew how to get these brushes, please post it. Thanks in advance.

Go with a rebuild IMO. Brushes cut into the armeture and a rebuilt unit carries a 1-2 year warranty from Bosch. Found one on the Net fairly reasonable when I did mine. A little work to remove but better than fixing brushes then having something else go out and doing it again.
