Wiper arm and spindle worn 850 1996

Guys help,

On the driver's side (the vehicle is right hand side - Australia) the wiper arm and the spindle have worn teeth. The teething is almost entirely gone. I tried to tighten the nut of the spindle but not luck - the arm is slipping badly. The right wiper can not be used.

Could give some advice please. Do I have to replace the wiper motor if the right hand spindle is ruined ? Is the motor on the right side ? Is it expensive repair ? I just don't know if the one of the spindle is part of the motor rotor, or the motor is somewhere in the middle and both of the spindels are connected via lever linkage ?
Can a bush with teeth, or someting be inserted on top of the spindle to "fix" it ?

    When I had this problem during a trip I brushed off the splines from the shaft and reassembled the original arm on it with a layer of 400 grit waterproof paper rolled in as a shim. This was just an expedient but it worked for over 2 years. I recently took off the wiper arm for an unrelated reason and just re-shimmed it the same way. We'll see if it lasts as long.

    The spindle is steel while the arm is aluminum. I think you will find the teeth on the spindle are still there, but filled with aluminum from the arm. Usually you can get away with a new arm and scraping the aluminum off of the spindle. If the spindle is indeed worn beyond use, the wiper "transmission" must be replaced. The motor can be transfered to the new trans.

      Thank you Bob - will check tomorrow . I saw some teeth "left" on the spindle but I think it's gone

        The "teeth"get filled with aluminum, and it usually comes out with a wire brush or a sharp tool.
