Won't start, wont do anything - dealership (service) doesn't know what it is. S80 1999

Well, we've had the car for about 8 months. It has 80,000 miles, carfax is clean.

So, I get in one day, turn the key, and it doesn't crank, doesn't turn over, doesn't go "click", doesn't do anything. I look down to see all of the dash lights, and I mean ALL of them on. Turn it off, back on, same thing...about twenty times...then, it cranks. Well, I turned it back off, and it did the same thing...nothing.

I called the Volvo dealer that was closest (Hendersonville, NC), and told them I was bringing the car, as soon as I could get it to crank again. So, we took the car, and we were told it would be ready in 5 days.

5 days later: Quote from the dealership "Well, we havn't had a chance to look at it yet, but it'll be ready in two more days."

2 days later: We go to get the car, after calling to make sure it was ready, they have it in the lot when we get there. Bill comes to $1478.xx for the new computer and labor. We write the check, and go to get the car, which is "being washed, then will be pulled up front". Walking outside, we see the service manager in the car, turning the key, with nothing happening. Same problem as before. Still not repaired.

We go back inside, get our money back, and are assured the car will be ready in a week.

So, now the car has been up there for 6 weeks, the eastern US Volvo "guru" has been to check it out, and it's still not repaired, and they still dont know what is causing the computer to cook itself. We've been in constant phone contact with them (three calls a week, by me, none by them) asking when/if they can fix it, always being assured that they can fix it. It's not looking so good, as far as I'm concerned, as a probability that they can fix it.

And to sugar coat it, we got a bill in the mail for the $1478.xx (the original repair bill, that was voided by the service manager) on 9/2.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anybody here (I was refered by a friend) could help in any way.

edit: it is the s80 t6.

It's been dispatched to a tech who doesn't know what he's doing SO if they don't have a better tech who has better electrical diagnostic skills (which the should) I'd have it towed to another Volvo dealership (not an independant unless they're experienced with S80 electrical systems and have the proper wiring manual).
Any decent Volvo tech (with current Volvo experience), a VOM and '99 Volvo S80 OEM wiring manual should easily be able to duplicate the problem and trace exactly where there's a "NO Voltage" problem when cranking.

I would take it to another place. Get a tow truck and go get it. Don't pay these guys either. They've fixed absolutely nothing. Take it to a good independent Volvo shop that knows what to do. In Hendersonville, I have no idea...sorry, but I'm sure someone here will chime in.

Oh, we're not going to pay them a dime! I just thought it was funny that they sent a bill for the car, and they still have the car, and it's still not fixed.

Left hand and right hand don't know what the other is doing...and I'm willing to bet neither hand knows what to do independently either.

        Good luck!

So glad you're car is fixed. How did you get them to resolve the problem. I have had a no-start problem now for a year with no resolution (2000 S70 GLT SE). Been to the dealer four times for this problem. The car is there now and it has been over a month. They called me yesterday to say they hope the problem is gone but aren't sure - in other words come get it. How do I protect myself. I bought the car from this dealer used but am still under warranty. If I take it to another dealer, will they bounce it back as if it is the original dealers problem. I am so frustrated. I have only talked with the service manager. Should I be in discussions with anyone else there? HELP!

.......BUT that won't cause a "NO CRANK" condition as you initially stated above. It'd still crank all day but wouldn't have proper fuel pressure, the 1rst thing someone should have checked for "cranks, no fire".
