When I purchased our new 2012 XC70 I measured the 2012 XC70, a 2012 XC60, and our 1996 855R - I was very surprised to find that they were quite similar in size!

Unless you are planning on picking up a refrigerator or an armoire you should have enough room.

Two things the XC70 has going for it is it is longer than most SUVs and has a folding passenger seat allowing us to bring a 7 foot tall grandfather clock!

BTW - we brought home a large armoire in our 745 - 76x36x24 with crown molding on the top! We had to put the front seats all the way forward (and eat our knees) and turn the top to get the crown molding past the rear opening.
