This was not the OP's problem evidently but, as a reminder, one of the most common problems with seatbelt latches (on any make) is that many kids have put coins in the slot. A simple and effective if unintended sabotage of the mechanism.
With that in mind, I just recently noticed my drivers seatbelt receiver housing had partially popped open. Further attention revealed that the plastic is designed to be removeable (no tools). One of the halves slides upward before being able to be separated. I was also afraid that removing the shell would allow some spring mechanism to fling tiny pieces to parts unknown. Not so. Cleans out easily. and pops back into position with ease once you can see how it goes together.
