The 850 and V70 are the same 5x108 bolt pattern and have interchanged in my many experiences. I actually just removed the 96 850 turbo 16" wheels I have had on my 04 V70 for the last 2 years.(those wheels look great on the 01-07 wagons by the way!) I have not run into any issues with caliper clearances on these cars like is somewhat common on the RWD Volvos. I have had 7 94-2004's that I mixed and matched wheels on. When you say the 850 wheels didn't fit your wife's 03 xc70, what didn't fit? I have not had a XC70 newer than my previous 98, which was the earlier style. Was it a caliper clearance issue why they didn't fit the 03? The XC's have about an inch higher ground clearance, and I ran 850 wheels on my previous 98XC70 without issue, but maybe the 01-07 XC's have a larger caliper being turboed?
