If the speedometer is working correctly, but odometer isn't, one of
the gears that turns the odometer may be cracked. The gears that turn the odometer are a little white plastic ones. The one that fails is usually
the one on the end of the shaft that is supposed to turn the odometer
mechanism. I've seen them in various shape, from harline cracks,
(which makes it slip, possibly explaining slow readings)to broken
in half. I didn't have a lot of success trying to repair the ones
I had break on me. The plastic is pretty brittle and the places
I ?'d about repairing it wanted lots of $$> And so did the volvo
dealer (like a few $100.) Check out a junkyard if you find you need
replacement. ... but remember to test it first and check out the
gears in the back for cracks & stuff..
