Re: Oil Drtain Plug Leaking[S70/1998] posted by David Fountain on

I also have a similar problem with my S70 T-5. The drain plug was installed very tightly from the factory and did not leak. Since the first oil change I have not been able to get the drain plug to seal without using a little silicone gasket sealer on the surfaces of the drain plug washer. On my car, I noticed the area around the drain plug is not machined around the washer sealing area and is fairly rough. I have tightened the plug as much as I dare considering the aluminum pan material. I use the aluminum drain plug washer which is the correct one for the S70. I believe the copper washer is only used on the 4 cylinder Volvos with the steel pans and it is a slightly different size than the aluminum one. I have an 940T which has never had a problem sealing around the oil drain plug. Please let me know if you find anything that works. --
