fuel pump noise, rattles, tires etc...[XC/98] posted by Sandy on

This is our fourth volvo and the biggest nightmare of our lives. The redesigned fuel pump makes a high-pitched whining noise especially when tank is half or lower. Very annoying. First week of owning the car two tires had to be replaced because of tremendous vibration at higher speeds. The vibration is still there. They replaced the drive train in hopes of fixing it, some improvement but not perfect. Three rattles have been fixed but now there is a new one. Have eight thousand miles and the ABS kicks in all the time does anyone know anything about this? This one is a lemon. I would recommend not buying one at least until the next model year. One last point, if you have had a turbo before do not buy this car it feels like your driving a slug.--

Sandy, Sorry to hear that you've picked up a lemon.
I bought a V70 last year, and it was a lemon too. I stood on the desk of the
general manager of my dealer a couple of times, and he worked with Volvo NA to
get my car replaced (they replaced it with a V90 which I'm much happier with).
Your problems sound like they reoccur and take your car out of service for a
large number of days - both things that are probably applicable to your state's
lemon law. I'd recommend that you find out the terms of the lemon law for your
state, and then review how close your car is to qualifying with the general
manager of your dealership.
I've been through this, and while it was a hassle to complain and negotiate a
settlement with Volvo, the best day I ever had with my V70 was the day that I
returned it to the dealer.
If I can help in any way, please e-mail me.
