Trip Computer S70[ALL/1998] posted by Tony Zee on

Now that I've had my car for a week, I STILL LOVE IT!!! The only thing I miss about the old BMW is the trip computer. Does anyone know if the computer can be retrofitted and how much a problem this may be?

Thanks & regards,

Tony, the 850 had an add on trip computer that you could purchase from their Volvo accessories catlog. So, I'm sure that they should have one for the S70. On the 850 it was located right under the instrument panel. I've not seen the new Volvo 98' accessories booklet yet! As for hookup, I've never put one in yet! I hope this is of some help!

Tony, Actually the trip computer, for the most part is already in your car. Your dealer will need to install a switch in the dash. They will also then need to purchase a PIN number from Volvo. They can enter this PIN number with thier systems tester to activate the trip computer functions. It will display in the place of your digital clock. This is the fist time Volvo has done any thing like this. I don,t know how much the PIN will cost, but at least your dash will not have to come apart to install the trip computer.

The trip computer is standard equip. on S70 and V70 t-5, optional on GLT'S AND GT'S.Not on AWD'S yet because it has to be readapted to the new system (dual gas tanks).

Tony, So go in and ask where it is! If it's supposed to be standard equipment make 'em put it in, or activate it for free! If they whine, let Volvo N. America know.

I was approached in a large Mall parking lot in N.NJ by a employee of a NJ Volvo dealer asking if I was satisi=fied with my present dealer and offering better service, (1st tune up and oil change at a %50 disc.), so maybe Volvo is changing is attitude towards customers. We have had the two worst Volvo dealers in NE close up here in last 18 months and things have gotten better. New dealer took over one and called all customers personally to ask them to be patient and gave everyone his private line number and email and vmail hookups.

Definitely find out if it is intended to be activated. I believe the option is about $400 to add it to a car which doesn't. When they do a Pre-Delivery Inspection, they may have overlooked turning this on. It should have been done at the factory (on cars with it as standard equipment) but mistakes do happen.

I can't believe they would have the audacity to charge $400 for a simple switch and the push of a few buttons!

Since the touring package (which includes leather steering wheel) lists for $350, I doubt the computer would cost $400.

Anyway, the dealer ordered the PIN number this morning and as far as I know they are still adding it free of charge! I'll let you know what happens.

Regards,
