I'm new to the 960 world after many 240/740/940s and I have noticed on some posts 97 V90 whereas my car is badged a 97 960 with a mfg date of 12/96. I have heard the V90 was only produced for 1/2 a year or so some say. So is my car more V90 or more 960? If I stay to the S90/V90 forum I suppose I won't have to endure all the 940'philes telling me what junk 960's are. Just an an FYI, we had a 90 760 and it is amazing how similar that car is to my 97 960, much more so than my old 91 940, at least in the interior.

There is the different rear-brake system, i.e. S90 has bigger rear brake discs. At least for european version

Apart from the interior trim pieces, the suspension of the S90 was also made softer.

I have not driven any (non S/V90) 960s, but suspension in my wife's S90 is definitely the softest of any Volvo car I've been in (and I've tried a lot of them!) before or after that series

You should definitely stay in this forum. Your '97 960 is identical to S/V90 cars.

I wish we could get a 960/90 series forum for the white block I6 folks and 940 forum for the reb block folks.

WELL I HAVE TOTALLY STRIPPED A S90 1998 AND A 97 960 THERE IS VERY LITTLE DIFFERENCE ALMOST EVERYTHING IS INTERCHANGABLE EXCEPT THE AIR BAG MODULE AND IF YOU HAVE THE FANCY CENTER CONSOLE WITH THE HEATED SEAT BUTTONS ON EITHER SIDE OF THE SHIFTER I WILL FIND OUT IF THAT IS INTERCHANGABLE THIS WEEKEND THERE MAY BE SOME SLIGHT WIRING CHANGES . THEY SAY THAT THE WINDSHIELD IS DIFFERENT BUT BUT IT IS NOT IT JUST HAS A DIFFERENT PART NUMBER ,THE SEATS IN THE S90 HAVE SIDE AIRBAGS IN THE SEAT. THE 960 I HAVE HAS 240000 ON IT ,IT HAD A BURNT VALVE WHEN I GOT IT AS WELL AS SOME WIRING ISSUES BUT I MUST SAY IT IS A REAL TREAT TO DRIVE AND I HAVE DRIVEN THEM ALL INCLUDING THE 780 TURBO WHICH UP UNTIL THE 960 WAS THE BEST DRIVE BY FAR. ANOTHER BIT OF TRIVIA THE 960 WINSHIELD 95 AND UP WILL FIT THE 760 88 AND UP . SORRY TO BE SO LONG WINDED

The 964/5 was re-badged to the S/V90 series during the 1997.5 model year.

He's right. Near as I can tell, the only difference between a '97 960 and a '97 S/V90 is the badges.

Hi all,
Also there are little differences between the 960 and S/V90. One being the centre console being redesigned and the seats having a different stitching pattern, to the fact that the S90 had fake wood and the 960 was real. As I said, just little stuff. Hope this helps.

Real wood you will find only if you have bought version with wooden steering wheel.

The 'wood' on our 95 960 is 'not' real. It's exactly the same as our 98 S90 except for the shifter and the console.

That's interesting because the wood on my '96 is definitly real. The original window sticker has it listed as an option, can't remember the price but I know it was not cheap.
