Your symptoms sound suspiciously familiar to me. Brake failure light and very low pedal. Have you checked the brake line junction box - AKA as "The Octopus" - below the MC for leaking? Do note that they can leak externally and internally. Hard to diagnose if it is an internal leak but I suggest searching here as there are old posts on this topic on the BB. Had to replace both the MC and octopus on my 90 240 in a very short period of time. Did way too many brake jobs on my 90. Brakes are NOT a 240 strong point...
