1993 wagon Timing belt tensioner 900

Dear Volvo From Heck,

Hope you're well. You are, of course, correct as to the timing belt tensioner roller not being separable from the mounting. As the roller is the "high-value" item, re-using the mounting is not cost-effective.

The belt might last 100,000 miles, if that distance were covered in, say 10 years. But I'm not sure I trust an older belt, albeit with half the miles. Rubber deteriorates with heat and time, so I plan to change a 10-year-old belt. I'll probably change the tensioner as well, out of an abundance of caution.

Am I over-cautious? Has anyone used a post-1992 timing belt for more than 10 years? What's the "Brickboard" record for a tensioner's working life?

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
