Seriously, 15-25 lb ft.

But first make sure that the strut cartridge is not loose in the tube. If it is, either tighten the gland nut further or find something to use as a spacer under the cartridge.

Sometimes when there is play in the tube people will wail away on the to nut trying to take up the slack. But the play is still there. It's the wrong approach and it may damage the cartridge.

If the strut is tight in the tube but there is still play at the top nut use a washer under the nut.

Look at the strut mount. There is a bearing. The top nut tightens against this bearing and at 15-25 lb ft it will rotate as the hub does. It's a self locking nut. It won't come off. And it wll be easier to remove in the future.

Don't over tighten. All you are doing is putting a strain on the damper rod.
