Rear Main Oil Seal Leak? 200 1988

Hi Eric,

You've done many of these, and I've done only a few (three). Only one of those three has been on our own daily driver to amass a whopping 80K miles and 10 years of service, and it was this one. ;)



Before I selected it, I took some pics alongside the Volvo part (supposedly Viton) you may have seen me posting them before.











However, I think the bigger factor in success is in how well this is cleaned up. I don't see how anyone can do a good job cleaning the crank with the carrier in place, but see many suggesting this extra step be omitted.



I still have the black Viton seal in the Volvo bag, awaiting the next job.

PS, would you routinely put threadlocker on the carrier screws? I see a lot of forum buzz about these backing out.
