hard start/poor idle in cold weather 900 1995

You're on to something here...

In this cold weather with your engine not heating up it is likely that the plugs/combustion chambers are not really getting hot enough to burn off carbon deposits that are gradually accumulating with each short trip you make. Either get out for a high speed run once a week or warm your engine up longer before driving.

I would also expect better results from NGK plugs, the Boschs are not so great in the redblock engines.
