SE / FLAT Hood on Standard 940???? 900 1993

Hello, wondering if an SE "Flat" hood would fit on a standard 940?? Would a new grill be required? How extensive is the conversion?
THanks!
Matt

    SE / FLAT Hood on Standard 940???? 900 1993

    Dear matt82dl,

Hope you're well. I deferred replying, so others could offer insights.

Whether 940 hoods interchange depends on the presence or absence of a cowl. The "cowl" on a 940 is a piece of body work, between the rear-most edge of the hood and the bottom of the windshield. The cowl covers the windshield wiper mechanism and the air intake for the climate control system.

Thus, the hood of a car without a cowl extends to bottom edge of the windshield. That hood is too long - front-to-back - to fit on a car with a cowl. The hood hinge attachment points - on a car with a cowl - are such that when the hood from a non-cowl car is installed, that hood's front edge will over-hang the grill and headlights.

While it might be possible to move the hood hinge attachment points, such structural changes would be risky. Volvo bodiy metalwork is engineered to dissipate collision energy. Changing hood formats and attachment points could compromise driver and passenger safety.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    Spook
