Rex-Regina MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) Sensor 900

Dear Fellow Brickboarders,

Hope you're well. Those, with cars having Rex-Regina ignition/fuel management systems, may want to note that GM Part#12569240 is identical to Volvo Part #3517892. This item reads incoming air pressure. I'd guess it "informs" the engine control module.

The price is not identical: the Volvo part's MSRP is about $190. The GM part's MSRP is about $80.

GM used this part in a wide range of cars, from 1983 until about 2003. Thus, this sensor should be available for several more years, at least.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook

hey spook, thanks for the tip, have you ever heard of these things failing or going wonky?? I have 242k on my regina 940 have been having soem weird idle issues that I cant resolve. Its tuned up and all hoses and gaksets have been checked / replaced, but idle still hunts between 500 and 1000 rpm.

    regards,
    matt

The angled rubber vacuum connector on my 940 MAP developed a leak, and at low revs, the vacuum line would flex, opening and closing the leak.

Until I can find a new connector, I applied some electrical tape and silicone sealant on the connector.

      Dear Matt,

Hope you're well. Yes. Mileage on my '93 940 deteriorated. I pulled codes, and found that the MAP sensor had failed. I replaced it and since then no issues.

The hunting idle might be the result of a dirty and/or failing idle air control valve (IACV). This unit is mounted on a bracket, beside and below the intake manifold. It has two rubber hose connections at the front, and a single electrical connector at the rear (the end closest to the firewall).

See the FAQs for cleaning the IACV.

      Hope this helps.

      Yours faithfully,

      Spook
