The guys over there get rather more radical with their styling projects, and I know several have done exactly what you want.

I guess the easiest way would be to back the holes with something and use body filler, but I wouldn't trust that not to crack and fall out. The best way would be, I suppose, to weld the holes up, or maybe tack on a strip of metal to back the hole, then lead load the holes, and sand it back to flush.
