<description>Yeah.
Low or no oil can cause lots of problems. Not having good seals...
A perpetual leak that someone forgot to top off...
Is it the engine? Is it the trans?
Those pesky speedo drive seals...
Driving without synchros..
&#x22;But it doesn&#x27;t seem any noisier when I&#x27;m driving..&#x22;
&#x22;OOPS!&#x22;
&#x22;Oh my god he fixed his car without tracking grease into the kitchen..&#x22;
...as he contemplated a new use for the recently removed disintegrating sound deadening material..

Having a clean underside is a good place to start.

I don&#x27;t know about the Haynes 120 manual but I do know that the Haynes 140 manual has a great M41 rebuild pictorial step by step guide that is not in the green book. The M41 rebuild info on the VClassics website improves whats found in the Hayes. The Haynes 240 manual has some good info as well.

<description>Hi,
If it was the bearings you would hear noise in every gear and at idle.
Third gear does go..
Take it apart and look at it. You will be able to tell.
If you replace just the third gear and not the lay gear you may still have noise.
It good to refer to the Greeen and Haynes manual and the Vclassics website.
Replacement parts are available online.
I rebuilt mine over thirty years ago (very noisy ...chipped some of the gears) and it is still going strong.

<title>[RWD] [444-544] Some fun original accessories I have collected for my PV444 project -posted by- TedR</title>
<description>Wow! Very cool stuff...
I like the arm rest... unfortunately my dog would not...he likes to use me as a head rest...
What about the fan? That is cool.
I need to get something like that to keep things from getting toasty.
Any modern day alternatives?
Has anyone put a solar cell on their rack?
That would be a nice way to keep things powered while parked at the beach!

More pictures of accessorized PVs please!

Cheers,

<description>This thing has a nice body and the interior is all there, nice dash, headliner, etc..
I want to give this car to someone into Volvos who will fix it up and drive it.
None of the driveline parts or performance parts are available until the shell goes. A package deal will get you the best price. We are talking cheap. I have lots of B20s and M41s stashed away that could go to the right person...
Check out SF Craigslist.
Thanks!

<title>[RWD] [444-544] SLIDING RAGTOP ON A 544 -posted by- TedR</title>
<description>There was a beautiful green 123 GT at the last Golden Gate/Sacramento VCOA swap that had a beautiful factory sliding rag top.
The owner let me sit in the driver seat as well as the rear seat so I could check things out. It was glorious!
I just love being able to kick back and look up at blue sky and green leaves.
I think that is one of the reasons I have held on to my 140 for so long.
A sliding ragtop on a 544 would be very cool.

<description>Hi,
I think I got it but I can&#x27;t find it right now.
The carpets are in storage under some seats.
I will take some photos and post or send them to you tomorrow.
I have brown and possibly black from a 142 and a few black from a 144.
I need to look at them more closely and send you pictures so you can determine if I have something you can use.

<title>[RWD] [444-544] &#x27;57 Grill on a Duett -posted by- TedR</title>
<description>Hi Paul,
You scored with your new &#x22;older style&#x22; grill... excellent shape, lots of character, very nice....one of the coolest Volvo grills ever...
I found an almost perfect newer style grill on a 544 at Pick&#x27;n Pull a few years back...nice chrome, no dents, straight center...it was was amazing. They were having a half off sale as well.
I grabbed everything I could..bumpers,fenders,front center section,hood,door handles,bench seat..
It was a very good day for finding parts.

<title>[RWD] [444-544] Let me know if this helps -posted by- TedR</title>
<description>Hi Paul,
Thanks as well! Your photos help a great deal.
Is the cushion left in when you put the back rest down?
I am not sure if I will ever come across an available Duett cushion or bar.
The 544 cushion is not as deep. Another 2X4 and a few screws should keep it from sliding around. My dog Sonic is the primary occupant of that area anyway.
Setting the interior up properly is a long way off. Lots and lots of body work still to do.

<title>[RWD] [444-544] Duett bench seat cushion fastening -posted by- TedR</title>
<description>Hi,
My Duett did not come with the bottom seat cushion in the back.
I suspect that the same kids who walked up and down the roof and hood while it was sitting in the junk yard threw it in the bay between beers.
I threw in the bottom section from a PV544 soon after I got the car.
This setup is less than optimal.
It looks okay but does not quite fit. I have it propped on a piece of wood.
It slides around and needs to be at least fastened better.
I am wondering what the original set up was like.
Did it sit directly on the floor? How was it kept from sliding around?
Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
-Ted

<title>[RWD] [444-544] Brake Fluid Proof? -posted by- TedR</title>
<description>Hi,
CVI has the correct hose as well. Its obviously made specifically for the application.
I have been using a regular cut piece of hose for the last couple of years without any leakage problems what so ever. Breaks are rock solid and great.
What I did find is that it was impossible to avoid having my brake fluid reservoir sit one quarter inch higher. This will cause other issues...
I strongly suggest getting the correct hose. Its only a few bucks.
I plan to upgrade to the correct hose with my next parts order.

<title>[RWD] [444-544] Front hand brake cable -posted by- TedR</title>
<description>Hi Chris,
I just ordered some for my Duett from Olof as well.
I&#x27;m starting with the floor and inner rockers then outer rockers then beneath the tail lights...
Autobodystore.com has a great forum and is worth checking out.
I picked up a HTP instructional DVD awhile ago, which has good information about welding in patch panels.
If you can weld then you can install replacement patch panels.
Its all in the setup and approach...kinda like patching a pair of pants...or making a quilt...
Welding is fun and we are working with great metal...
They did not skimp with the PV; extremely high quality steel.
We will have to compare notes once we get started.

<title>[RWD] [444-544] Front hand brake cable -posted by- TedR</title>
<description>Hi,
CVI had the cable. Amazing.
I plugged the part number (86924)into search window of their web shop and it came right up. Reasonable price as well.
It must be NOS. Its identical to the one that came out of the car.
I even got the return spring which was missing.

The car is really coming along.
The wipers are sorted out. They work great. Thanks Agent Strangelove!
The roof is almost back to normal...
I hope to get the new floor in, rockers and replacement tail light panels in this summer.
Any tips in this area are greatly appreciated.
Down to one project car (for now). I hope to move along a little quicker.

<title>[RWD] [120-130] [1965] brake fluid for 65 122s -posted by- TedR</title>
<description>Hi,
I have been using ATE for thirty plus years. It works great.
Just change it every year of so (it says on the can every year) and you won&#x27;t have a problem.

I guess DOT 5 is better if you can afford it.
I never tried it.

Your brake system might last five, ten, fifteen years if you don&#x27;t change the fluid but then you most likely will have to replace your master cylinder and all your calipers...after it fails on the freeway...LOL..

RPR has ATE

Thanks for looking.
