[RWD] [200] Rear Bumper Repair -posted by- hawkeye

I was rear ended mildly on the way home tonight. The car that hit us was an 02 Volvo S40 (I think that's right), anyway, all it did was drive one side of the bumper in about even with the trim piece, no body damage, taillights etc.

I assume his insurance will pay to fix it, although the policeman did not give him a ticket.

Has anyone repaired something like this?

[RWD] [200] Battery Corrosion -posted by- hawkeye

This is on my 1990 760. I posted it here because you 240 guys seem to be more active. I do have a 245 that is my daily driver if that helps any.

I can not figure out what is going on here. I clean this well, and in a couple of weeks it looks like this. The car always starts fine.

Anyone have an idea why?

[RWD] [200] 245 Full Size Spare -posted by- hawkeye

I have the original mini spare that is 22 years old. I am getting braver with the wagon and drive 3-5 hours from home. I fear the mini spare might not hold up if I had a flat or a side wall cut, etc.

Does anyone know if a full size spare will fit in the spare space on a wagon?

Does anyone else carry a full size spare?

Thanks,
Hawkeye

Jorrel,
I agree with everything you said. I should defend my daughter a little. She drives our 1990 760 and really likes it. I just posted a 300,000 milstone in the 700 section.

She likes the 760 but just thinks the 245 is too old looking.

I know we usually don't do this sort of thing but I couldn't pass it up.

Take a look a this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180426568234&category=6458&_trksid=p4340.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSI%26its%3DI%252BC%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D10%26ps%3D63#v4-36

I told my daughter I was going to but it. Her answer, "We are NOT riding to school in that!" She has only recent accepted riding in the 245. We have a nice, nearly new Silverado truck. She asked "Why don't we take the truck" My wife told her because "Daddy's sick" I know most of you are too!

I am in the Nashville Area too. You need to check out the pull a part over on Centennial Blvd. They have several 240s and may be a good source for things like this. www.pullapart.com

I know those guys and generally they are pretty good guys. Not unusual for something like this to happen to an lady (or Man) who really doesn't know what they are need.

I have had some pretty interesting things come home for the hardware store when my wife went and I was in the middle of something.

Nice to see you are helping a kid like that.

[RWD] [700] 300,000 Miles! -posted by- hawkeye

Well, today our 1990 760 Turbo turned over 300,000 miles. We have owned this car since 2000. It had 143,000 when we bought it.

It has been a great car so far.

Major Repairs:

New Hydraulic Motor Mounts 2002 DIY
New Nivomats 2008 DIY
A/C Conversion
Replaced the Injector seals
Replaced Radiator
Two Timing belts
Oil Change every 3500 to 4500 miles
Original Mitsubishi Turbo

That's about it.

It's still a nice car. I need to replace the face of the front seats and maybe repair the seat heaters. Everything else still works.

[RWD] [200] Arm rest unusual -posted by- hawkeye

Has anyone seen or used one of these, or have an opinion. I went back to the local pull a part and got it last week. I am thinking about installing it but want to know if there is a problem or drawback to it before I go to the trouble.

Thanks in advance,

[RWD] [200] Single Arm Center Armrest -posted by- hawkeye

Now you all have me interested. I didn't buy it but I hid it in another car think I would go back if it fit mine. If it didn't fit I planned to lay it back in the seat for the next guy.

Does anyone know if it will fit my 88 245?

Thanks,

[RWD] [200] Single Arm Center Armrest -posted by- hawkeye

I found a tan center arm rest today at the pull a part. It was unlike any I have seen before. The rest mounted to the drivers seat via a single metal bar. It was hard plastic, had a little release button and would fold all the way up or hold any angle in between. I think it was on an 82 model.

Has anyone ever seen one like this? Do you know if it works for later models??

[RWD] [200] [1988] Rear Seat Handle -posted by- hawkeye

I repaired my 1988 Rear Seat handle, the one that lets the seat fold down today. Several weeks ago I pulled it and the handle broke.

I got a part from the local pull a part. The donor car was a 1992 760 wagon and a 1994 940 wagon. The outside trim piece pops up and reveals two screws. I removed the two screws and was able to release the cables. The lever and cable parts were nothing like the 245 but the handle and part the handle mounts to were identical. I was able to get a tan one that matched and a black one that would have worked too.

I am amazed at the variations of this handle from model year to model year.

I just wanted you all to know that 700 and 900 handles can be used to repair at least a 1988 model.

[RWD] [200] damn odometer -posted by- hawkeye

I had a similar problem on my 88. It is still not working. Just be careful what ever you do the little motor is mounted to the circuit board and that is where is gets it power. I removed the motor and ruin the board. I am waiting for one to appear at the pull a part.
