mine squeak only when it's cold...like first 2 min in the morning.

try applying the anti-squeal lube behind the brake pad and piston. also, there may be some shims u can obtain that go between the pad and the piston. u can lube those too...just make sure u don't get any on the rotor or the surface of the pad

[AWD] [850] [1995] Symptoms associated w/ worn out shocks? -posted by- steve s

i would check for mounts... anyway, a worn out shock would result in endless up and down motion. push somewhere strong (not the sheet metal like the hood or something) in the front or in the rear.. if ur car goes down once and returns to normal height, they are ok. if ur car goes down and up excessively, it's a good sign the shocks or struts are bad.

[AWD] [850] [1995] Anyone installed Boston Acoustics or Infinity speakers in an 850 wagon? -posted by- steve s

for the most part...yes. the rear speakers probably won't fit under the stock speaker grill...but it will fit in the hole. the front speakers is a toss-up...some on other forums have had no problem fitting them in. i on the otherhand, had to follow charles's writeup (http://www.volvospeed.com/Mods/kappa5_25.htm) and modify the metal hole in the door...basically enlarged it by trimming off about 1/4" of metal, sand it, and the repaint it. good thing no one sees it. the magent can now fit in the hole properly and it will then fit under the stock speaker grill. oh, if u do have to cut it...tape and mask everything else.. inside the panel too, try to collect all metal shavings... u could always get a shallow fit speaker, not sure if either of these two models u listed at the 5-1/4" size have the slim fit, where the magnet behind the speaker isn't as large, so it fits in tight spaces..

[AWD] [850] [1995] What can you folks tell me about '94 850s?? -posted by- steve s

don... there isn't supposed to be any 1994 850 glt... 1994 was offered in only base and turbo. 1994 850 turbo tested 6.1 and 14.7 in a mag...supposedly one of the fastest years of the 850 turbo cars... their intercooler piping is a little different, and there may be some small differences in software (not sure about this one).... but for 3000...doesn't seem like a bad price... one thing, make sure the wagon doesn't rattle. interior trim on the cargo hold isn't really all that well put together.

[AWD] [850] [1995] IPD Overload Springs -posted by- steve s

i take it u have a 1997 model? ipd's overload spring is gonna be a little stiffer... make sure u don't have novimats in the back, if u do, the novimats may be shot. if u don't, then the old springs also may have given way... how many miles do u have? new stock springs may work as well... if u do happen to carry a lot of stuff..then the ipd overloads may be best for u...the trade off in ride shouldn't be that much...

[AWD] [850] [1995] Hey Stereo fanatics... -posted by- steve s

is it a sony head unit that u got?

there should be 4 pairs of speakers...4 channels
front left: front left door + left dash
front right: front right door + right dash
rear left: rear left door + left tailgate/hatch pillar
rear right: rear right door + right tailgate/hatch pillar

the tailgate/hatch pillar is a tweeter...very small speaker, as is the dash

what year is ur 850? obd 1 should be able to be reset manually, obd 2 needs a tool..obd 2 started in some 95 and 96 models..

it should not be a problem going to synthetic imo...but it seems like an issue that is fairly opinionated...

[AWD] [850] [1995] 850 Rear Door Speaker Removal -posted by- steve s

no need to remove the panel.

simply pull the speaker grill straight out away from the door. pull from the bottom of the speaker grill.

if u do need to remove the door panel...

1) remove the small t25 (i think) torx screws (3)
2) remove the leather panel above the door handle by gently pulling it out away from the door
3) remove the larger torx screws (2)
4) u would need to remove the speaker grill, speaker, disconnect the wires to remove the door panel
5) remove the plastic door handle (pulls straight up)
6) pull the door panel straight up away from the ground..

[AWD] [850] [1995] Anyone have specs on CD/stereos SC-815 vs. SC-816? Speaker diff's from '95-'99? -posted by- steve s

yeah, one of the speaker pairs is 4 ohm while the other 3 pairs are 8 ohm, can't remember if that one is the front door or rear door... there is no external amp for most cars except the t5r and r models.. a quick check behind the headunit should tell u the story. look behind the headunit on the driver's side, there should be a 6-pin female receptor behind with "amp" above it... if u have a cable, there is an external amp somewhere in the car... if not, no external amp.

if u wish for a simple replacement, don't be too worried about the odd ohm numbering...it hasn't affected that many people on other forums..
