[AWD] [850] [1995] Pulled two ABS codes/ What must I do next? -posted by- Mr. Detail

My ABS light has been going off and on intermittently lately and I finally just got a chance to pull the codes. There were two and they were 1-4-1 and 1-4-2.
If I have the definitions correct they should be as follows:

141= Faulty pedal sensor: shorted to ground or supply.
142= Faulty stop (Brake) lamp switch: open circuit

Do these codes signify that I need to replace the pedal sensor and stop lamp switch? Not even sure where these would be located.

P.S. Can someone also clarify for me again the proper sequence to clear any codes?

[AWD] [S60] Changing the AT fluid in a S60? -posted by- Mr. Detail

Hello all,
I am normally over on the 850 board but I have a question today for my co-worker who owns a S60 (T-2.5). He wants to knows how dificult is it to change the automatic transmission fluid in this car? It has 103,000 miles on it and when he recently went to the dealer and asked them to change it, they told him that Volvo's never need the AT fluid changed. Boy is that a joke as I found out the hard way myself with my 850 that it is wise to change it when it starts to look black in color. Please let me know if this is fairly easy.

Thanks!

[AWD] [850] Driver's side window moving slower, slower.............. -posted by- Mr. Detail

When I depress my driver's side window auto button and the window begins to move down and then abruptly halts about 1/3 of the way down and then only keeps moving if I press and hold the button again, is this a sign that the motor is about to die? Or is there another possible cause.

Thaks Ozark for your response. Can you help me one step further by telling me maybe which of these two parts (the latch or latch brace) would be considered the "U" shaped hook. This "U" shaped hook is what I sawed thru and nothing else was damaged.

[AWD] [850] [1995] SUNROOF QUESTION -posted by- Mr. Detail

Left my sunroof open (tilted not glass retracted) overnight and this morning an odd tHing happened. When I closed it down it was fine but when I tried retracting the glass back into the roof body it would not move. It made some funny sounds like it was trying to move but would not. I have never lubricated the rails or any moving part since owning this car for 8 years. Now a day later it moves back within the roof. If I have to lubricate the rails or working parts, how do you get access and what type of lubricant is best?

Thanks!

[AWD] [850] [1995] Drive axle brand recommendation? -posted by- Mr. Detail

Seems like there is a lot of junk out there and I don't want to have my Indy charge me twice for labor.

[AWD] [850] [1995] Clicking sound from front wheel hub............... -posted by- Mr. Detail

I haven't had a chance to get the car over to my Indy mechanic for a look but can anyone give me their opinion as to what might this sound be?
Just lately whenever I pull out of the driveway and cut the steering wheel hard, as I acclerate and the wheel returns back to straight I hear a click, click, click type of sound that I believe is coming from the wheel hub area.
Any thoughts as to what this may be?

Thanks!

[AWD] [850] [1995] Glove box fix -posted by- Mr. Detail

steelydev,
Thanks for your response. The only thing I want to be sure about is when you
"carefully hacksaw the strike (U-shaped wire) that the latch hooks into".

Can you actually see what you are attempting to cut or is it a guess?

Are the screws that hold the face to the backplate on the inside?

Did you use a "fine" hacksaw blade by itself, with no handle?

lies so I could actually cut it and nothing else? Unfortunately I could not copy,paste just the photo. They are the 4th & 5th photo fom the top.

[AWD] [850] [1995] Glove box fix -posted by- Mr. Detail

O.K. it looks like I have the good 'ole locked/jammed glove box. I saw this fix (http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/glovebox_fix_850.php) but it looks like it leaves the front of your glove box all butchered up.

Whta is the best way to go? The hacksaw blade dealio?

Can anyone tell me why this happens anyway? I mean if something breaks usually it would break open right, not locked......

[AWD] [850] [1995] ABS codes and their meaning? -posted by- Mr. Detail

The brake lights are fine especially since my Indy replaced a bulb or two during the annual state safety inspection. I cleared the codes but did not go back in and see if the codes were still there. This morning when I started the engine, without moving, the ABS light came back on but only briefly before it went out. Strange....

[AWD] [850] [1995] ABS codes and their meaning? -posted by- Mr. Detail

Just pulled five (5) ABS codes from socket A3 after my ABS idiot light went on recently. Can anyone enlighten me as to what they really mean to me as far as repairs or cleaning up something first?
_____________________________________________________________________________

142= Stop lamp switch faulty
211= No left/front wheel signal on moving off
212= No right/front wheel signal on moving off
213= No left/rear wheel signal on moving off
214= No right/rear wheel signal on moving off

A couple of tips here, the car recently needed new front rotors and pads and they were all replaced by my local Indy. The car has 188,000 miles on it and this is the first time I have ever had the ABS light come on. (1995 854 GLT)

[AWD] [850] [1995] Engine Code 2-4-1 pulled from A2 socket -posted by- Mr. Detail

Hello all,
Just pulled a 2-4-1 code (EGR Flow is too low) from my 854. Wondered if anyone has an opinion as to what this might mean to me? Curiously the "CHECK ENGINE" light came on shortly after my recent visit to my Indy mechanic for the annual State Inspection and Emissions testing.

Klaus, I know you respond a lot here on this board and many of us greatly appreciate your comments but even though I noticed your smiley at the end of the sentence, "Remind me not to ride with you" some of us out here are on a very tight budget and we do our best to keep our Volvo's in top running condition. We are in a DEEP recession right now. Thanks much for your reeponse.

Can any of you guys tell me which of these brand rotors you would go for for your Volvo? I would rather not spend the $156 for two OE Volvo ones unless some of you can give a thumbs up on any of the others.

OE Volvo= $78.00 ea.
ATE= $49.50 ea.
Brembo= $47.00
Zimmermann= $144.00 for set.
