[OPINIONS] Stimulous Road Project Identification -posted by- TONY H

Good stuff.
I have the same gripe. This is not Stimulous money but..
Our Local clowns spend more time and and money to put up signs stating that this 1/2 mile of road is being refurbish , Town of Brookhaven Highway Department , Superintendent: yadda yadda, Secretary: yadda yadda.

Cones, flagmen, flashing lights, 4 dumptrucks so 4 guys can watch one guy with a posthole digger to put in a single sign that does nothing but blow their own horn. I'm not talking a highway, I'm talking a small secondary road.
Just do the job. Besides the cost of the equipment and manpower to put in a sign, what did this sign cost us?

The Stimulous money is not being used wisely, it's just being used.

Don't get me going on how fast the gov't pissed away the Homeland Security money.

[OPINIONS] Trial in NYC -posted by- TONY H

I think it's insane that they Try him with US civilian law and not military law.

I also think that N.Y. is a big enough target for terrorist to make a statement without bringing this guy in to town so other terrorists can kill him making him an instant Martyr.
On the other hand, I wish they would escort him from the jail to the courtroom by standing 20 feet away and giving him a Jumpsuit with a bullseye on the back

[RWD] [700] [1987] flametrap -posted by- TONY H

You may want to buy a replacement Housing and Trap incase yours breaks in the process. The small nipple on the Housing gets brittle and can break.
I have a cleaned up spare on the shelf and sometimes while I'm doing an oil change I will just swap in the clean one. Then later I will clean th one I pulled from the car for the next time. Make sure the small hose going to the Housing is Clear along with teh Brass fitting that it goes to on teh Intake manifold. that's about all there is to it.

[RWD] [200] Replace Rear Bushing on Control Arm -posted by- TONY H

The idea is to take the weight off the assemby. I guess they say to have the tire rest of the floor so it doesn't drop down or move when you take the three bolts off the firewall. In reality, nothing springs out and jumps around anyway.

[RWD] Good Deal on Craftsman 3T Service Jack -posted by- TONY H

I've had a Sears 3 ton for about 10 years now. It's holding up very well. I drilled and tapped an area on teh larger wheels and put in Zerk fitting to grease the axle. I looked at the URL you posted, my jack is different that might be good or bad. You are correct it's tough to crack the handle loose just enough to let'r down slow.
My other Floor Jack is very good as far as regulating the descend

[RWD] [200] I'm told my outer tie-rod is bad, but at 3 & 9.... -posted by- TONY H

I'm not sure how they said you have Loose Wheel Bearing nuts AND a tie rod issue.
If there was side to side movement at 3 and 9 it could be one issue or the other or both.. but you would have to fix one and come back and retest to verify additional issues.

On tire off the ground at a time to check Ball joints. I would use a Floor jack under the 'A" arm so the suspension stays 'loaded' to get an accurate reading as to what's going on...if anything.

[RWD] [200] Control Arm Bushings - Front Suspension -posted by- TONY H

Dan, if it's the Bushing that attaches to the lower Firewall with the Bracket, you can pull out the three bolts that hold the bracket to the Firewall, unbolt teh larger nut and slide the bracket that holds the Bushing off and to a shop.
With Bushings and Bracket in hand.. I would think a shop would not 'hurt' you to press in new ones.

[RWD] [200] Newbie wanting advice on buying a 240 -posted by- TONY H

Many of us here have 200+ K miles on our 200's.
Many of us get our hands dirty. As mentioned earlier. If you depend on a Mechanic to do all the work, the car may beat you up $$. Not too many dealers want to work on them and many Independent Shops have to reinvent the wheel to figure out what's going on. If you do the work yourself and you ask the questions here, you will have a very inexpensive maintenance vehicle.
This Swede car is very good in the snow as compared to many Rear wheel drive cars. I can't explain why but I've been driving through New York Winters for 20 years now in my 200.
Like any car they have their quirks. I think between the many people on this Site, we have seen them all and can probably finish your sentence when you ask a question.
I own an '89 but there is nothing wrong with a'90. Actually it might be a prefered year.
200K miles. yup, it's time to look at some things. Repack the front wheel bearings. If you get Clunking going over speed bumps slowly... Rear Trailing arm bushings or Torque rod bushings would be suspect. Timing Belt change is every 50K miles. Relatively easy as compared to may cars.
Many of us mail order parts from a few reputable places. They don't kill uyou on shipping either. These cars are as easy to work on as an early 70's type car, hardly any 'crap' in the way.
You are asking a bias bunch of guys.... I am the original owner of my '89 and at 300K miles, I don't have any new purchase in my future.

[RWD] [200] Clutch, ujoint, or clutch petal spring? -posted by- TONY H

MAybe the Cable is a bit goopy on the end so it does not fully engage the clutch. I would try and adjust the clutch a bit.turn the nut on the cable Clockwise about 1/2 turn and see what happens.
The Jumpy feel Might be Torque rod bushings. Bad 'U' joints might cause a bit of a jumpy feeling but if the Caps were broken on a 'U' joint, it would feel jumpy until you got to about 20 MPH then level out.

[RWD] [200] [1992] Tip of "dental pick' broke off behind seal -posted by- TONY H

Denatl Picks/mechanic picks

There are different Grades. I bought a small set from Sears. They are junk. They appear very strong but they are brittle and break. I have a Snap-on Pick that I swear you can lift the house with. I've abused that poor little tool and it keeps laughing back at me.
Your real issue: I'm guessing the Tip is on the Downstream flow of the oil and will end up in the Pan. Maybe buy a strong magnet and stick it to the oil pan, close to the front of the engine.

[RWD] [200] Different wheel size for spare tire -posted by- TONY H

It's the diameter of the tire that really matters. How many revolutions the spare makes over the other tire is the issue. Especially if the Spare was put on the rear.
If the diameter of the tires were far off, I don't think I would want those Spider gears in the Diff. working that hard for many miles.
