[RWD] [200] Trying to find out about the history of my 93 240 Classic -posted by- volvoboz

I'm sure by now I'm annoying everybody with my posts about this car but I have decided to invest time and money into fixing it up and keeping her alive! I found pictures of the car #322 of 1600 on this website http://www.240.se/pictures.html anybody know who's site this is? I would love to know the history of my car. The license plate shows a NY tag. I just bought the car from somebody in NC and he was not truthful about where it came from or how long he had had it. OR how much work it needed. Thanks!

[RWD] [200] the way I see it -posted by- volvoboz

I agree! Maybe its just me but I would gladly spend money on a 240 because I like them. I have always liked them and regardless of what the cost is to keep them running good, I will pay it. I don't think this is unreasonable for me, because it is a car that I enjoy and am happy to drive and see everyday. I start to second guess myself when people who don't understand the love affair I have with the 240 make comments that make no sense to me about the value of a 240. Edmunds or kbb values some of these cars as low as $200, is that what some 240s are worth? Sure - but I value mine much higher, because I would much rather drive my 240 than my new MB wagon or BMW 3 series convertible - is this crazy? I don't think so because it is what makes me happy. So if someone is just talking about the cost of the metal, plastic, vinyl and cloth of the 240 a car that is 15+ years old with 100k plus miles there is very little value and you are wasting your money. If you value the 240 because you have always loved them and would rather drive one than almost any other car and would gladly spend 10-15k for one in pristine condition and dream of the day volvo makes the 240 (in its exact original condition) again, they are worth what somebody like me is willing to pay for one. Does that make me a sucker? I think it makes me somebody who is going to keep these 240s on the road for a long time, happily spending what every it takes and enjoying every minute!

[RWD] Should I replace my 1993 240 classic wagon with a 98 V90? -posted by- volvoboz

thanks for the info. Something tells me I should keep the 240 it seems it will be the better car to have. I had somebody email me with the following so I started to second guess myself...I had put it on craigslist locally (washington dc area) for 3200 maybe a little high but I said it needed some work but is in really nice condition aside from some deferred maintenance. READ BELOW

Thank you for your response Anthony. In all honesty, at the price that you are asking, I would require that all the work be done. In addition, my volvo mechanic would also have to give the car a thumbs-up and it would have to pass MD state inspection and smog test. Unfortunately, the values of the 240's are not keeping pace with the cost of their repairs and parts - and this is coming from somebody who drove nothing but new 240's since 1984 - including two matching ruby red '93 classic wagons. Good luck to you whether you decide to sell or not.

[RWD] Should I replace my 1993 240 classic wagon with a 98 V90? -posted by- volvoboz

I have decided to have some work done to a recently purchased 1993 Volvo 240 Classic Wagon, but have found a 98 V90 with under 100k miles that I think might make a better daily driver. I love 240 volvos, the ways they look and drive. But am not sure I should keep sinking money into it. Thoughts??

[RWD] [200] 1993 Volvo 240 Classic Limited Edition Wagon what should I sell it for? -posted by- volvoboz

It is really beautiful. I drove all the way to north carolina on a saturday night to buy it in the pouring rain! I was told the car was perfectly maintained blah blah...I just didn't expect to drop a couple of grand into it right off the bat. I have already spent 700 in repairs and diagnostic fees. Maybe I should just make it my summer project.

I don't know how to do any of these things myself...pathetic right...but I have always had my volvo guy work on my volvos. If I could find somebody to do it all right for 1000 or less I would do it! My mechanic says he would charge me around 2000 plus for everything.

[RWD] [200] 1993 Volvo 240 Classic Limited Edition Wagon what should I sell it for? -posted by- volvoboz

parts and labor

My mechanic is very meticulous so not all of this needs to be done. but this is what he recommends.

headlights are cloudy replace
right headlight connection clip is missing
needs a tune up. new spark plugs, cap and rotor
needs new front wheel bearings
needs new left front inner tie rod
Muffler right support rod is broken
shifter bushing needs to be replaced
needs new rear shocks
left tag (not tail) light is out
4 way flashers are not working
missing one lug nut and one wheel stud is broken
also leak at rear main seal, valve cover gasket both minor.

I just had belts replaced, 4 new tires installed, the oil changed. It made a 300+ mile trip with no problems. I drove it up from NC.

[RWD] [200] 1993 Volvo 240 Classic Limited Edition Wagon what should I sell it for? -posted by- volvoboz

should I sell this car and what should I sell it for? The guy I bought it from lied about what it needs. It is all maintenance but could cost 1500-2000.

Limited Edition Volvo 240 Wagon Classic Edition #322 of only 1600 made. Ruby Red with Tan Interior. Auto trans, power everything, car looks great, interior is good. I recently bought this car and have put 4 new tires on the car, had the oil changed and the alternator belts replaced. The car runs very well, engine and trans are strong, odometer says 212000 but I was told the odometer had been replaced and the mileage is lower but I am not sure. The car looks great and drives great, but does need work. I just had the car inspected by a local volvo mechanic who I have used for years. (I have an 89 240 wagon that I have had for over 10 years). This car has deferred maintenance. I have a complete list of items the car needs or should have done at this time. The car starts right up, drives straight down the road, looks really good and is worth investing in repairs. All lights work, the car does not burn oil, all windows work, door locks work, radio works, shifts through all gears (including overdrive), no third seat, but does have a roof rack. email with questions.
