<title>[GATHERINGS] October 11, 2009: K-Pax Racing (S60Rs) at Laguna Seca Raceway -posted by- volvie!</title>
<description>Hi Everyone,

An update:

CJ, the GGVCOA President, posted this at Turbobricks:
&#x26;#091QUOTE&#x26;#093We are trying to give Jim an accurate number of people that are going to show. If you are planning on attending this event please R.S.V.P. John Sharp at john.sharp@ggvcoa.org to get on the list. Depending on the amount of people that show some may be able to sit in the cars, ask very specific questions about them etc. This will all depend on the size of the group. Jim has said there will be some Volvo SWAG to boot!&#x26;#091/QUOTE&#x26;#093

Salinas, CA 93908

Copy and Paste from the Event Flyer:
&#x22;My name is Jim Haughey, owner of K-Pax Racing. I am a VCOA club member and own a Volvo repair business near San Jose, California . We race two S60R Volvos in the Speed World-Challenge GT racing series. You may have heard of us, if not, look in the September/October edition of Rolling Magazine on page 15 for our current story.

We will be at Laguna Seca Raceway, near Monterey California, October 8 thru 11. We race on Sunday October 11 at 2:45 pm. We have won two races so far this year, beating Porsches, Vipers, Mustangs and Corvettes. Laguna Seca looks to be a good track for the Volvos. Trying not to wave our flag too much, but these are the fastest Volvos in the world!

I&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#153;d like to invite any club members out to the track and if there is sufficient interest we can gather the VCOA members at our paddock area and have a talk for the members, let them get a close look at the cars, maybe sit in the cars, show everyone our trailers, motors, transmissions, meet the drivers and have a good time. The reason I am writing is to see if your local chapter has any interest in coming to Laguna Seca for our race. I am also extending invitations to the Golden Gate Chapter and perhaps some local dealers.

Here is a link to the schedule http://www.world-challenge.com/files/schedules/2009%20MRLS%20ScheduleR1.pdf.
Here is the link to our website, www.kpaxracing.com.
I also CC&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#153;d Dave Drimmie; he is the VP of Marketing and Communication for our series and may be able to get us some free stuff.

Let me know what you think.

Jim Haughey

<title>[GATHERINGS] Sacramento Chapter: August 23, 2009- EuroSunday -posted by- volvie!</title>
<description>Hi Everyone,

We are pleased to announce our next event:

What:
EuroSunday Sacramento

Sunday, August 23, 2009
8:00A

Where:
Pete&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#153;s Coffee &#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#147; Quarry Ponds Shopping Center
5550 Douglas Blvd.
Granite Bay, CA 95746

Copy and Paste from the Event Flyer:
Our plan for the day is to arrive at 8:00 am, and park in the area designated by the event organizers and enjoy looking at all the cars on display until the event ends at 10:30 am.

Typically, European exotics and well restored pre-75 cars are displayed. However, this will be an opportunity to display nicely maintained older Volvo&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#153;s. They should stand up well and draw attention from many of the other drivers. If your Volvo is not the best of the best, don&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#153;t despair! This will still be a fun opportunity for VCOA members to get together and to see a wide variety of European cars on display.

Following the Show and Shine at the Quarry Ponds Shopping Center, Volvo owners will be invited to take a drive, as organized by the Euro Sunday crew to a destination to be announced. We may also wish to organize Volvo owners for an independent drive and lunch as an option.

If additional details become available, we will share them with you a few days before the event.

Please email a RSVP or direct questions to:
Jeff Molander, Ginger Guimarin, and/or Marcia &#x26; Wally Russell

Jeff Selling&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#153;s family has set up this event for our enjoyment.

We will meet at 10:00 AM sharp for a 30 minute docent-led tour of the Indian Museum (we recommend trying to arrive by 9:30 AM). Afterward, we can continue to tour the museum on our own, or go next door to tour Sutter&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#153;s Fort and get a sense as to the origins of the Gold Rush and meet volunteers in period dress.

By 12:00 noon to 12:30 PM, we will meet in a shaded backyard area behind the Indian Museum to have lunch. There will be tables and chairs.

Based on a poll of the leadership team, we need to endeavor to make or buy and bring some cold lunch items for our feast. There is a refrigerator that we can use at the Indian Museum.

Since we do not know how many people might want to attend, please send an RSVP as soon as feasible, and let us know what you would like to bring, and in what quantities, so that we can get a sense for whether we will have a &#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#156;well balanced diet.&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#157;
If you are bold, please feel free to bring a portable BBQ if you are willing to cook some &#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#156;hot&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#157; dogs for us. Jeff Molander will update every one as to our &#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#156;food status&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#157; in a week or two.

We are pleased to announce our next event:

Swedish Day at IKEA (West Sacramento) with the Bay Area Saab Club

Saturday, June 13, 2009
10:00A

&#x26;#091U&#x26;#093Where:&#x26;#091/U&#x26;#093
IKEA (parking lot ~row D)
700 West IKEA Ct.
West Sacramento, CA 95605

Copy and Paste from the Event Flyer:
Last year, we had a &#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#156;Volvo Day at IKEA&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#157; with a car show and Swedish trivia game.
This year, with the event scheduled between Swedish Day on June 6th and Midsummer Celebrations on June 20th, we thought it would be more fitting if we expanded the event to &#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#156;Swedish Day at IKEA&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#157; with all Volvos and Saabs invited to the car show and Swedish-themed &#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#156;treasure hunt / great race&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#157; type game!

As before, we will meet in the IKEA parking lot (~row D) in West Sacramento close to the entrance:

IKEA
700 West IKEA Ct.
West Sacramento, CA 95605

See the Sac Volvo Club Event Flyer link above for an attached map on page two to find the general area where we will park and greet each other (marked with a thumbtack). Following introductions, we will have an opportunity to chat, enjoy Sweden&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#153;s finest automobiles, and share information on Volvo and Saab lore.

At about 11:30 AM to noon or so, we will move inside IKEA to enjoy a buffet lunch upstairs in a conference room that we have reserved next to IKEA&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#153;s buffet. During the lunch, we would like to discuss club events, and the possibility of the Sacramento Chapter working with the Golden Gate Chapter to expand our Spring Davis event next year to either a VCOA Regional or West coast meet. All of the ideas that we will generate or explore about Davis will be passed on to CJ Yother, Golden Gate&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#153;s new President.

Following this at about 1:00 or 1:30 PM, we will begin the Swedish-themed &#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#156;treasure hunt / great race&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#157; type game that will include questions and clues written on placards that will be placed throughout IKEA&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#153;s second floor. Those who complete this multi-staged game first will win!

IKEA can be reached from Interstate 80 in West Sacramento by taking the Reed Rd. exit (just to the north of the store) and going East. From there, IKEA Ct. will be your first right (going South) IKEA is toward the end of this short street as you work your way Southwest.
If in doubt, pull up driving directions from your location on an online directions / map website.

This event is free of charge for participants, with the exception that you will need to cover the cost of an inexpensive lunch (the Swedish meatballs are great).

&#x26;#091B&#x26;#093If you wish to attend, please RSVP so we know how many to plan for.&#x26;#091/B&#x26;#093

To RSVP, you can either:
-Send me a PM
-Contact Us: &#x26;#091URL&#x26;#093http://www.sacvolvoclub.org/Home/contactus&#x26;#091/URL&#x26;#093
-Use the Event RSVP form: &#x26;#091URL&#x26;#093http://www.sacvolvoclub.org/Home/events/event-registration&#x26;#091/URL&#x26;#093

-----

Side note:
I am also looking for some help generating some more challenging Saab trivia-type questions for our Saab guests (moderately difficult-- something that an average Saab enthusiast should know, but nothing frustratingly difficult). If you would like to help, please let me know!

-----

Hope to see you there!

Take care,

This wonderful drive takes you through the Delta by way of the many levees, making ferry crossings to reach the destination of historic Locke California. Locke was founded in 1915 after a fire broke out in the Chinese section of nearby Walnut Grove. The Chinese who lived in that area decided that it was time to establish a town of their own. A committee of Chinese merchants, led by Lee Bing, Chan Hing Sai, Tom Wai, Chan Dai Kee, Ng So Hat, Chan Wai Lum, Chow Hou Bun, and Suen Dat Suin was formed. They approached land owner George Locke and inquired if they could build on his land. An agreement was reached. The town was laid out by Chinese architects and industrious building ensued. The founding of Lockeport, later &#x27;Locke&#x27;, was a reality. By 1920 Locke stood essentially as you&#x27;ll see it now. Al&#x27;s Place which is our destination, better known as &#x22;Al the Wops&#x22; was founded in 1934 after having been a Chinese restaurant since 1915 becoming the only non Chinese business in town.

This event will start with a drive, and culminate with a lunch at Al&#x27;s Place in Locke. We will meet near Cordelia Junction and take Hiway 12 out through Rio Vista. Just outside of Rio Vista traveling north on Hiway 160 to Locke CA. Wander about (it&#x27;s a small town) take some photos, and grab a bite to eat. Once we have had lunch we are taking drive on the levee roads.

Here is some additional information:

We are meeting at the IKEA in Emeryville @ 9:00am leaving at 9:15 for the Starbucks located at 4470 Central Way, Fairfield, CA&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#142;. Exit 41 off highway 80, turn right on Pittman and right again on Central Way once you&#x27;ve exited. The Starbucks is on the right. Once there we will meet up with those from the North Bay and continue the drive to Locke from there. We are leaving the Starbucks at 10:15 to head to Locke. We are going out highway 12 to highway 160 and then into Locke. Once in Locke we&#x27;ll meet up with the Sacramento Chapter, eat lunch at Al&#x27;s and go for a drive afterwards.&#x26;#091/quote&#x26;#093

<title>[OPINIONS] Volvo High Mileage Club/Badge Article- Now Online! -posted by- volvie!</title>
<description>Hi Everyone,

As some of you already know, I am a member of the Sacramento Chapter of the VCOA and we have been working on a website that includes Volvo resources in addition to the usual local club stuff.

In this effort, I have asked George, a fellow VCOA member and a high mileage driver in his own right(400,000+ miles and counting; original owner of a 1999 S70), to write an article about the history of the Volvo High Mileage Club and Badges.

His efforts can now be seen online here:
http://www.sacvolvoclub.org/Home/volvohmc

As far as we know, this is the first of its kind and we would like to try to make it as complete as possible. If you have any additional information (dates, pictures, scans, etc.) that you would like us to add to the article, please let us know.

We invite you to take a look and share your thoughts.

Take care,

<title>[GATHERINGS] CA: Davis Car Show &#x26; Track Day (April 2009) -posted by- volvie!</title>
<description>Hi Everyone,

Updates!!
There is discussion of the possibility of an impromptu dyno day with John from Evil Genius Racing (on Sunday, after the Davis Car Show)!

Here&#x27;s a quote and link to the latest update from CJ (the new GGVCOA President) over at Turbobricks:
Quote:
&#x22;I received an invitation from John Pagel at Evil Genius Racing this afternoon offering up an impromptu post Davis dyno GTG at his shop. Information and updates on the track day and dyno party will be posted on the chapter forum. If you aren&#x27;t a member you should be. We will be sending out newsletters and member announcements to forum and chapter members.

I have a few options to invite others to participate, but would prefer to keep it to Volvos if possible. Get those sign up sheets and payments in so we don&#x27;t have to ask!

Golden Gate VCOA Chapter President&#x22; End Quote

And, here is a quote from John over on the 1800list:
Quote:
&#x22;Look out shameless plug coming!

Yes, at my shop. We drop the price to $40 for 3 pulls (including
wide band AFR) during the Volvo Dyno day. 2 wheel drive only, sorry AWD
guys. The idea is to head over to my shop (7 miles) after the Davis
meet winds up, Dyno cars until they&#x27;re all done, go to sleep and then head
off to the track early in the morning..

We&#x27;ll have 48 hours of Volvo madness.

-John&#x22; End Quote

If you have any questions, let me or CJ know!

<title>[GATHERINGS] CA: Davis Car Show &#x26; Track Day (April 2009) -posted by- volvie!</title>
<description>Hi Everyone,

If you are in California, you are probably already aware of the Annual Davis Car Show &#x26; Swap Meet (which is currently in its eleventh year) and Track Day at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows.

This year, the events are scheduled on Saturday &#x26; Sunday, April 26-27, 2009.

What you may not already know is that the Golden Gate VCOA (GGVCOA) recently canceled some events due to economics and lack of interest, including the April Track Day.

The GGVCOA is also going through a transition period and announced new leadership. CJ Yother has stepped in as the GGVCOA President while Dick Thomas stepped in as Vice President. If you are in the area, please send them a warm welcome!

The new leadership is trying to resurrect the April Track Day and needs to hear from you if you are interested in running.
For more information, check out the website:
http://www.goldengatevcoa.org/events/thunder_09.html

Here&#x27;s a copy of paste from the website:
&#x22;The cost is $200.00 for the day, with lunch included. The cost is the same for club members and non-members.
We need to have deposits in place by March 24th to make the event happen.
If we don&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#153;t get enough participants, we&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#153;ll have to cancel and refund your money.
We also need help with logistics and driver skill instruction. There are many ways to enjoy the day, support the event, and the participants.&#x22;

For more information about the Davis Meet:
http://www.goldengatevcoa.org/davis_09.html

Lets make the Track Day happen!

With Spring rapidly approaching, Jon Manji will get into detail regarding how to prepare your car for many of the car shows that are scheduled in California during the months of April and May. Jon will be presenting a slide show and will also use actual cars as an example to demonstrate strategies and techniques to make your car look its best.

When:

9:00A

Where:
Coloma Community Center (near UCD Med Center)
Gold Run Room (located at the front of the Community Center)

With the car show season starting soon, please join us for this overview of the background and structure of car shows. We&#x27;ll also cover some evaluation techniques that you can use on your own car to determine your strategy to show it at its best. Car show newcomers and veterans alike will find the material presented in this class invaluable in preparing to participate in and enjoy future shows.

This is not a &#x22;How to Restore Your Volvo&#x22; or &#x22;How to Detail Your Volvo&#x22; class; the focus will be on providing a summary of how shows are typically structured, including judging procedures, and how you can evaluate your car so that your time and resources are spent wisely. While this class is geared toward Volvos and typical Volvo Club of America/Volvo Sports America
(VCOA/VSA) meet formats, the information to be presented applies to all types of car shows.

Long-time VCOA/VSA member Jon Manji will be conducting the class, which is based on his car show experience. He has served as Field Captain for two VCOA national meets and performed other judging duties for many other meets and shows.

Note: Due to meeting space limitations, RSVPs are required for this event, so please contact me by April 2nd.
In your RSVP, please provide your name and the number of people you are responding for (include yourself in the count), as well as your preferred contact info (only for notice of last-minute event changes).
