[V8] Hydraulic clutch issue -posted by- mrl

Does anyone know if the stock Girling clutch master cylinder from a 1990 740 turbo SE is adequate (big enough) to activate a Corvette (1985) clutch slave cylinder? The fork is moving some, but the clutch does not seem to fully disengage. Do I still have air in the line? Do I need a larger master cylinder? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

[RWD] [700] [1990] Hydraulic clutch bleeding -posted by- mrl

I am having problems bleeding my hydraulic clutch system (1990 740 turbo SE). There is a little fluid coming out the bleeder nipple, but there is still no resistance in the pedal. Any advise?

[V8] Bellhousing/transmission -posted by- mrl

Greg, thanks for the info. I heard the T5's are ok unless you beat on them all the time. Also, street tires are sort of a safety valve for the tranny. As for the bellhousing, it will depend on how much money the local salvage yard wants for the corvette ones. No pics yet, the car looks kinda rough right now, but it is currently white with the original Volvo body kit. Similar to this one.

Mine will be black or silver with TSW snetterton wheels.

[V8] Bellhousing/transmission -posted by- mrl

What would you recommend? I will be swapping a 350 sbc into a 1990 740 SE turbo. I currently have an M21 (close ratio) but I am thinking of selling it to get a T5 instead. My engine put out about 380hp. Can a "good" T5 handle the torque? I would prefer a T5 because of the overdrive obviously, but also because the shifter bolts up on top, centered on the tailshaft. The M21's shifter is of to the side and I think that would interfere with the center console inside the car. As for the bellhousing, would you recommend a '84-'88 Corvette bellhousing or a regular bellhousing with a hydraulic throughout bearing such as a Howe or McCleod?

[V8] ROLL CALL - Who still reads this board? -posted by- mrl

I do occasionally, I have been working on my other car project but I am about to start my first V8 swap into a 1990 740 turbo SE. I am sure I will be visiting more often in the near future. I actually have a question regarding bellhousing/tranny, I will start a new thread.

[V8] IRS -posted by- mrl

I need to buy a Volvo for my SBC. I have the opportunity to buy a 940 SE turbo which I believe has the IRS. Can this diff/axles handle 400-450 hp/ft.lbs? Does the SE come with a posi? Are there any aftermarket suppliers for a locking IRS diff upgrade?

[V8] Best Volvo for V8 swap -posted by- mrl

I actually don't mind the 4 doors, whether it's a 200 or a 700. I do like the fact that the 200 has a stiffer chassis/body than the 700. The problem I am facing with the 200 is that JTR recommends going with a hydraulic clutch setup from a 260(pedals and master cylinder) which seems to be very hard to find used. I have not checked with Volvo whether they are still available from them. Probably cost a fortune though. Can a clutch pedal from a 240 be modified for use with a hydraulic setup? Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks, Marty

[V8] Best Volvo for V8 swap -posted by- mrl

Please excuse the newbism in the following question. This is a very subjective question. I have a gen I SBC with around 400 hp coupled to a muncie m21 that I want to swap into a Volvo. My dilema, which car do I choose:

240: classic look, light weight, cable clutch(can be substituted to 260 hydraulic clutch), solid differential;
740: not as good looking(in my opinion), about the same weight, hydraulic clutch setup, solid diff;
760: just as butt ugly as a 740, 300 lbs heavier, but independant rear suspension.

What are your thoughts?

[RWD] [700] 740 vs 760 weight -posted by- mrl

Why is a 760 318 lbs heavier than a 740? Surely 2 extra cylinders can't account for that.
