<title>[RWD] [444-544] Inexpensive shock solutions--carb linkage and more -PV544 -posted by- CaliforniaOldvo</title>
<description>Inexpensive shock solutions-PV544--whats good and inexpensive off the shelf from my FLAPS--(Friendly Local Auto Parts Store)..
Nothing fancy..

Does anyone have a clever solution for a Weber carb setup -- using hardware store stuff for linkage...I would rather not spend 40-50 bucks for their &#x22;kit&#x22;.

A digital pix or two would help-- winning idea wins a free new surfers T shirt (winners choice of size) with an estimated MSRP of well under $50.00 taxes and other incidentals not included. Shipping however will be included.. The usable winning idea is solely at the discretion of the judge.

Also..what do you use for the the coupla inches of brake line coming out of the reservoirs. I have an exciting little piece of fuel line with two little hose clamps that I
am depending on to stop me safely.

I told wife we have a redundant system of the emergency brake right there between the two front seats..

She refuses to ride in the car and has gotten me more life insurance --completely paid for..
What a thoughtful woman..

BTW if you drop in there is always a cool beverage on ice adult bev or otherwise
here on ice in San Clemente, California..

<title>[RWD] [444-544] brake fluid reservoir -posted by- CaliforniaOldvo</title>
<description>Here is a copy of a year old &#x22;Rolling Magazine&#x22;

http://vcoa.org/resources/rolling/sample.php
There are ads for all the major vintage parts dealers so getting
a brake master and other parts is no problem.

I have bought from--
vintageimportparts.com, SwedishTreasures.com, ipdusa.com, all three have given good service, fast shipping and expert advice.

There are other parts vendors that folks on the list like. Look through the magazine linked above for other advertisers.

Brakes are important so do a good job on your dual brake system.
dual meaning the master cylinder for hydraulics and your emergency brake
as the fail safe backup.
Good luck with your project.

<title>[RWD] [444-544] Dash Cap -posted by- CaliforniaOldvo</title>
<description>Hi--I&#x27;ve never done this, but it looks easy enough as long as the old pad os fairly decent and you aren&#x27;t too sloppy with the glue or adhesive.
This sell has a ton of positive feedbacks. Look at the negative feedbacks to get a feel.
This sell does a huge amount of business on ebay which give me confidence.
I&#x27;ve been ebaying for a long time and would buy from this buyer.
In fact a lot of PV parts are now listed by me on evay.
Good luck and take a lot of pictures..

<title>[AWD] [850] [1994] opinions on clamps vs zip ties for vacuum hoses? -posted by- CaliforniaOldvo</title>
<description>Solid clamps are better than cheese graters screw clamps and
more solid than zip ties.
Whenever I buy a used car I deduct $100 for every zip tie I see under the hood.

As far as solid clamps..the needle nose is the wrong tool.
Look up on ebay or the web hose clamp pliers.
They have a cable like the brakes on a bicycle
squeeze the handle and the remote jaws squeeze the clamp.

<description>1. IPD vs SWEM Alternator Conversion on a B18.

2. Are there any recommended alternators for the IPD since they seem

3. Any major pitfalls, caveats.

4. Estimated time looks like 2-3 hours tops. Will allow double that for suprises.

5. Any other alternatives including homebrew?

6. Looks like a 2-2 1/2 banana job. on a scale of 1-5 bananas.

<title>[RWD] [S90-V90] [1996] Volvo Battery Life Span -posted by- CaliforniaOldvo</title>
<description>Hi- for my money (extra) the Optima is far and away the best battery ever. I have NEVER gotten stuck with an Optima..you get what you pay for..

Dollar for dollar, I agree that a WalMart battery is very good value. I haven&#x27;t tried Costco but absolutely trust their customer service and return policy. They are very easy to deal with and bend over backwards.

Sears has been a let down and they make you wait and always complain when I&#x27;ve had battery returns. I finally gave that car (&#x27;94 Mercedes) up.

BTW all the major FLAPS (Friendly Local Auto Parts Stores) i.e Kragen, Autozone will do a quick battery check with computerized battery testinq equipment.
Autozone has an array of loan tools and a check engine light checker for free loan.
They usually ask for a drivers license or payment that they return.

Keep all your receipts for anything you buy at FLAPS. </description>

<title>[RWD] [444-544] Relocated to Denver Congrats--(no Volvo Content) -posted by- CaliforniaOldvo</title>
<description>Belinda--Congrats on your move...
You have bought one of the most fun, comfortable cars
on the planet. (hyperbole). I know, I have one of those too.
That is right after a PV of course..

Just look up all the Saab recalls and make sure you have had them all done.
For safety and getting stuck sake, keep an extra Direct Ignition Cassette
and the correct tools to change it. This is the only major glitch in the car
and there is a lot posted all over the web. This part seems to have an early failure rate and can fail without notice.

On my 2002 9-3 this $400. w/ labor part has been changed four times in 6 years and 82K miles-I&#x27;m at war with GM and the dealer. Three replacements under warranty now they are balking. Shame on SAAB and GM this is the third and last one I&#x27;m buying.

Apologies to all for non Volvo content. Belinda has supplied more great info on the list that has saved me tons of time and trouble.

Best of Luck in mile high Denver!!

<title>[RWD] [444-544] Can I make my own dashpad ? -posted by- CaliforniaOldvo</title>
<description>Any suggestions on making a dash pad are welcome.
Suggested materials and any techniques.
Just has to look decent I know it won&#x27;t be blow molded.

Has anyone just sanded down their metal dash and painted?

Working on 2 cars at the same time..
One is on the road and the other one is just hours away from being ready.

Any substitute for fender lace and modestly priced windlace..
Also what size is the windlace and approximately how much is needed.

Last but not least is the headliner..
Looking to buy or trade or alternate route suggestion...

These are not show cars...

To all-Thanks all for the tips, insight, info and support I&#x27;ve gotten from the board..I&#x27;m looking forward to adding constructive information.

<description>I&#x27;m parting out a recently deceased 64? maybe 65? 544 bodyshell.
If you need any body parts let me know and I will see if I can accommodate.

I haven&#x27;t figured any prices yet. Make an offer, I also will charge actual shipping. I&#x27;m not in the parts business.

If anybody needs body parts--let me know.

All floors are shot .Have fenders. hood, trunk lid windshield, rear window, most side glass, doors, spare well, dash, body panels.

I will keep the board posted.

I will post pictures or email pictures. State your wants needs and wishes. No Motor or mechanical parts, lenses steering wheel. I bought a rolling body. As soon as it gets picked apart the balance is going to the crusher.
