[AWD] [850] Not another remote programming thread. -posted by- dbo550

I have had no luck programming the remote on my 95. I can't get the dash led to come on and nothing else seems to be working. Could it be the receiver? I hate to pull my glove box out because I have a cd changer mounted in it adding to the chore. Is there an alarm relay somewhere that I could check. Its a 95 t5r. I have a 93 that the keyless works on so what all do I have to switch out?

[AWD] Got a T5R today Need Some Help -posted by- dbo550

Being a long time Volvo owner and fan I picked up a yellow 95 t5r from the goodwill auction today for $525, I realize it will need some work. I found all kinds of electrical things that weren't working but traced it to the ignition switch that needs replacing. I drove it home and it has a terrible wheel bearing noise, no biggie. But what I am most concerned about is I took it easy on the drive home and waited til a nice wide straight piece of road to see what it had. Boy was I disappointed when I floored it and one of the biggest puffs of blueish black smoke came out of the back and the car just fell flat on its face. So can anyone tell me what I am in for here, I am prepared to go the distance with this car because I have wanted one for many moons now and finally have it. And being only $525 into it I think I'll be alright. So where would you guys start. I haven't had enough time to get underneath it but did manage to clean the interior up some, which is the least of my worries.

[AWD] [V70] [1998] 1998 v70 wagon engine optoins -posted by- dbo550

I have recently purchased a 1998 v70 na wagon that supposedly needs a head gasket. The car has 280k on it so I'm thinking that I should just go on and replace the engine. I also own a 93 850 with a bad trans. So my first question is what would I have to do to my 93 motor to make it work in the 98? Or what is my best option for an engine, latest year and lowest mileage , to fit the car? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

[AWD] [850] [1993] 850 Tranny swap - Any other years fit a 93? -posted by- dbo550

I am in the same boat as you. i have learned that a 93 transmission is the last mosel year you want in there. What I have heard is that any year will trans will fit. but I have heard something about having to change the trans cooler lines to the radiator. I have removed two of these transmissions now and nothing looks different about the lines. Somebody feel free to chime in there. i did get lucky and find a freshly wrecked part out on craigslist got the tranny for 70. heat wave is keeping me from install.

[AWD] [850] [1993] Axle Grease or ATF??? Which is it? -posted by- dbo550

About to do a tranny swap on my beloved 850. Found one freshly wrecked with no known issues. I have removed a few of these transmissions now and it seems to get easier every time. My question though is what is that fluid that oozes out of the transmission from the axle hole when you remove the axle, it looks pretty nasty and is hard to tell if is atf or axle grease? please help before i start this ordeal and get my baby back on the road. Thanks in advance.

[AWD] [850] [1993] Shopping for Used 850 tranny...Need Advice -posted by- dbo550

Well my 850 has been sitting for over a month now with a dead trans...Imagine that a 93 with a bad trans, I am glad it did make it to 160000. I pulled a tranny from a 93 at the pull a part for $48 but when i went back to the car about a week later I noticed the trunk of the car was full of empty atf cans, so I don't think I'll be fooling with that tranny. I went to a very good independent volvo shop and found one for $600..Ouch!!! But my passat glx is nowhere close to being as fun as my 850. But the guy at the shop told me that I did not want to put another 93 trans in my car and that newer versions would fit it fine but I would have to change something with the cooling lines. If anyone has some advice or a better deal on a trans please let me know. I'm in Lou ky

[AWD] [850] serpentine belt -posted by- dbo550

i followed someones advice on here for the tensioner. At home depot or lowes go to the plumbing parts section and look sor something called a pipe end cap that has a square on the end of it. the 3/4 inch fits perfectly in both the tensioner and the vice grips. And costs less than a dollar. Be aware that if you have an older model that the belt routing has been changed so your new belt will be longer. Good Luck

[AWD] [850] 850 Transmission Slip. How to check Fluid??? -posted by- dbo550

I bought this car with the bad radiator with the tranny fluid mixing with the coolant. Wouldn't move upon purchase, flushed tranny, worked perfectly. Drove it approx. 1000mi and the tranny starts slipping or not engaging in the higher gears. I flushed it again and got about 100 mi out of it before it started slipping again. Car has around 170k and I have a used tranny ready to install. I would like to know how to check the trans fluid before swapping. Are you supposed to check the atf with the engine running with the ebrake on and trans in drive, like my wifes passat, or just check it with the engine running. Please help because I am on a very tight schedule.

[AWD] 850 Antenna -posted by- dbo550

I just did one of these last weekend with the kit from Groton. I did end up having to take the assembly apart to remove about 3 inches of broken plastic, no big deal. But I did find that I had to twist the plastic somewhat to get it to feed good. It works perfectly now. Good Luck

When removing the volage regulator from my 93 850 glt it appears that there was a lot of something built up where the brushes meet the shaft. My question is, is this some type of lubricant or is it just dirt? If it is lube then what kind and how should i apply it, thanks in advance.

[RWD] [200] [1983] fuel sending unit lines....ones missing -posted by- dbo550

just went through the process of bring a 83 240 wagon that i bought on ebay back to life. bought it not running. I replaced the in tank pump and one of the relays and she finnaly started. it is missing pretty bad and running kind of rough. but a bonus is that the ac is ice cold on this thing. I am mainly a vw guy. My problem is that when i replaced the in tank pump i noticed that one of the nipples on the sending unit had no hose on it and looked like it has been a long time since a hose was there. I own a rabbit gti and these are notorious for stalling in right hand turns because of the very same hose being deteriated. so ultimately my questions is what does each hose go to from the sending unit so i can replace the one that is missing as there are no signs of where this should be connected to. thanks in advance.
