[OPINIONS] Trial in NYC -posted by- Stickbuilder

Snoot,

I have no problems with a civil court trying a civil disobedience case. I do have a problem with a civil court trying someone accused of committing an act of war. There are other tribunals that are specified for acts of this kind, and different sentencing guidelines for dealing with those who are found guilty. Committing an attack on a Soverign Nation, or plotting to do the same are not civil disobedience crimes. That is what I find wrong with him being tried in this venue.

[OPINIONS] Lets have a reality check here on taxes. -posted by- Stickbuilder

One thing that you are not remembering to make comment on is that those of us who work for a wage do not hire others to do work for us for the most part. Those wealthiest people are the ones who hire others to work for them. If they don't make the money, they probably won't be doing any hireing. I know that that is a narrow view of the situation, but there is a ton of truth therein.

Those who make the most money also have the most hanging out on the proverbial limb as well, and by taking those risks are due more than the poor slob who punches the time clock. Abraham Lincoln said it best when he said that you could not make one person better off by taking wealth away from others.

I'd be in favor of a National Sales Tax. That way every person would pay his share. Yes, the poor would pay a higher percentage of their wages in taxes, but it would close all the loopholes. If you did not wish to pay the taxes, then don't spend as much. Even the poor among us are wealthy beyond the dreams of much of the rest of the world.

[OPINIONS] The current GOP is not better. -posted by- Stickbuilder

If you buy GM, Ford or Chrysler, you should remember that a lot of the parts used in the assembly for these cars and trucks are sourced from Japan. Most of their cars are assembled outside the U.S., and the payroll checks are cashed in Mexico or Canada. Even if you drive an old Volvo with The AW 70 or AW 71 automatic transmission, you are in effect driving a partial Toyota. I would rather buy a Toyota or Nissan and keep the people fully employed here in the good old USA. At least Nissan and Toyota have made an investment in our future, rather than moving our right now to another country. Might be one of the reasons that GM and Chrysler are in so much trouble. Of course, being your own biggest competitor didn't help either now did it?

[OPINIONS] The current GOP is not better. -posted by- Stickbuilder

Why the erection for Toyota? They operate a manufacturing assembly plant in Fremont California, plus one in Indiana and one in Georgetown Kentucky. They contribute heavily to the income in these States. Just wondering why the constant bad mouthing of that company. Sure the Profits go back to Japan, but the payroll checks are cashed right here.

[OPINIONS] Back atcha -posted by- Stickbuilder

Submarines are manned by Technicians. Even the Cooks have to be qualified to stand any watch, and rig every compartment for any evolution. You don't know anything about what you are preaching. Get qualified and stand a few watches, then come and discuss it with me.

Supporting information? Hell, son, I was there when we went all volunteer. The logistical nightmare was one of the key points to not go to an all volunteer Military. The arguments against killing off conscription were bricked up by the use of companies such as those that you mentioned. That, plus we has some very doveish people in Washington who would have happily laid down to be had by whomever wished to violate them.

[OPINIONS] long term vs. short term -posted by- Stickbuilder

We won World War 2 without Haliburton simply because every male under the age of 40 who did not have a dibilitating problem or was an objector was fighting or providing the logistical tail for the Military. With that supreme effort, all U.S. Industry was geared toward the manufacture of War Material. It has nothing to do with Cheney. If we did not use a company such as this, we would need to conscript young people to drive the trucks, pump the petroleum products, and cook for the troops. The move to the High Tech Military, manned by an all volunteer group has mandated the useage of companies such as this. Again, would you rather use 2 red necks in a pickup?

[OPINIONS] long term vs. short term -posted by- Stickbuilder

There are still vast oil fields that have not been tapped. Even in off-shore Florida, are fields that the tree huggers do not want to see developed.

You bring up Haliburton again....Who would you have to provide the logistical tail for the military? Two guys in an F-150? They and a relatively few other companies have the resources and/or the experience to do this job. We can't call time out with an opposing force while we get the problem worked out. The Troops in Contact must be provided with munitions and other non durable items. Haliburton was the best choice for the job. Or would you rather your Son be drafted to drive the trucks or to do the cooking for those on the pointy end of the spear?

[OPINIONS] long term vs. short term -posted by- Stickbuilder

We are not, "Doomed." We do not have to change our spending habits as individuals if we are earning the means to sustain that lifestyle. What does doom us as a Nation is the notion that we must take everyone who lives here along with us. Just because You and/or I have the means to live fairly high on the hog does not mean that everyone can or should. Life choices dictate our standard of living. No one waved a magic wand over you and made you what you are. That took some participation on your part. Those who made poor choices do not automatically have the same resources as do you. That also took some participation, or the lack thereof.

The big difference is that if you and I can't afford something, then we pass on the purchase. Government can indebt you and me to something that we may not choose to buy. It looks as if Mr. Obama and the Democratic led House and Senate are wanting to spend the money on Whiskey and Hookers, but for the masses instead of the few. Which party have you ever known to reduce our tax burden regardless of deficit or surplus?

You can't drag the masses along if they don't want to pull their fair share of the load. At some point the money does run out. If you want the Government to fire up the printing press, then expect rampant inflation, and a total loss of your purchasing power.

[OPINIONS] Why Trillions -posted by- Stickbuilder

And Insanity is doing the exact same thing time and again, while expecting a different outcome.

I had some unexpected major expenditures over the past year, but was able to pay for them from my savings that I had prudently put away over time. I did not incur any new debt. Which one of us did the right thing? Probably both of us, but we as a Nation are doing nothing that would enable us to develop a surplus of cash. I've about had it with all the taxing and spending. You can't buy yourself out of debt, nor can you spend yourself out of debt either. What ever happened to the concept of, "Spoils of War?" Since we did enter the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, why not take the spoils from these countries, and pay for fighting them in the first place? I will promise you that if we had lost WW 2 to the Axis forces, they would have taken everything of value from us. We would be speaking either German, Italian or Japanese today as well.

[OPINIONS] Why Trillions -posted by- Stickbuilder

Never said that, or even pretended to say that. There is such thing as a Budget. That is a spending plan that takes your Income into consideration. You can't spend more than you take in. If you want the current Administration to fix your perceived problems, then you will need to decide which programs that you will suspend, and what will be required to fund the proposed expenditures. If you are a Politiciian, you also have to decide which Ox to kill, and which to merely gore. There is no bottomless well of funds to provide total care to all your consituents. If you stab those who employ others, then unemployment will increase. If you stab those who receive the handouts, you won't be elected to keep your cushy job. Kind of like being between the rock named retirees and the hard place named pragmatic spending. It's gonna be interesting to see which one he leans toward.

[RWD] [200] Replacement Alternator -posted by- Stickbuilder

Anyone know of a direct replacement alternator (around 100 amps) that will work on a normally aspirated 1985 245. Since replacing the brushes on mine, it charges, but I'd like to have more output. I added the pusher fan, and the voltmeter is a little low when the fan is in operation, especially at night when all the power users (lights and turn signals) are on. Thanks in advance. Oh, and I do have a local alternator/starter shop that can refurbish one, but sadly no Junkyards locally that will sell a Volvo part. They crush them as soon as they get them.

[OPINIONS] lie. -posted by- Stickbuilder

Lie? No mirrors in your house eh? Be careful about the quick name calling there Bunky. Go back to about March, and check on your posts from that time. You and Paul made no bones about what you did. Victim? That has the ring of someone who wants others to feel sorry for them. That would be what the message of this post has become, and what has been said in support of you. If anyone has tried to sound like a victim here, it would be you. You stole something that did not belong to you, and tried to make someone seem small, and then tried to weasel out of it by claiming to be retaliating. Bah!, trying to reason with you is like trying to reason with a petulant child. You were caught, and now you try to justify it. Pure B.S.

[OPINIONS] I'll ban anyone from this site who posts the personal identity information of others. -posted by- Stickbuilder

One question (in more that one part) begs to be asked.

Would you have taken my side if it had been me who posted something about Snoot?
Would you have posted that you understood my actions?
What if Snoot had posted a photograph (pirated from a Copyrighted site) of you?
Would you have been supportive of his doing so?

How about some fairness here. You know well that I made a great effort to behave on here early this year, and that Both Snoot and B20 Paul dug and dug until they had me tied in knots. When I did retaliate, all that was posted was that this was what was expected. Not one of you came to my defense. That's right, not one of you. You got from me what I got from you. Just the back of the hand. Does that make it right? Absolutely not, but as I said, how about a little fairness on here.

I know that we are opposed in our political thinking, but if there can be no civility even on the BrickBoard, then how is there to be civil discourse on the World's Stage? The old, "I'm right and screw you," thing has to stop somewhere. Why not here?
