I checked all the wiring and still nothing, I ended up replacingthe dimmer switch on the back of the instrument cluster and that fixed the problem...dash lights are working once again.

[RWD] [700] [1990] 1990 744GL Dash Lights -posted by- KASarich

I checked the fuse...in fact all of the fuses that have anything to do with the lighting system, and all are good. I decided to investigate a little more and ended up removing the instrument cluster. Once I got it out I noticed that the wires that go from the dimmer switch to the instrument cluster were cut. Since the dash lights havent worked since before I got the car, I assume someone cut them, for what reason I don't know, but I am assuming the switch is bad because resistance is very high. I'm going to go up to the junkyard and get a new one, and see if that fixes the problem.

[RWD] [700] [1990] 1990 744GL Dash Lights -posted by- KASarich

On my 1990 744GL (Regina/REX) I have no dash lights, or interior lights of and sort (radio, control panel, instrument cluster). All of the idiot lights work, the dome light works, and all the exterior lights work. Any clue what could be causing this condition? It is getting really annoying to use my cell phone to light the dash to see my speed at night and I need some way to fix this problem. Any input would be great.

Thanks,

Kyle

[RWD] [700] [1986] 1986 740 Turbo Timing Belt Tensioner -posted by- KASarich

Thanks everyone for all of your input. The 1986 744 Turbo was finished today, and is running good as new. Here are a few photos I uploaded to show the progress of the project and some of the things that I ran into along the way.

When you get to the Photobucket page, on the left side there is a place where it says albums, and one of the albums is titled 1986 Volvo 744 Turbo, click on that and the images should be in there.

[RWD] [700] 1986 740 Turbo Timing Belt Tensioner -posted by- KASarich

Thanks for the info. I did manage to get the tensioner off, but I wanted to know what to do about this. http://s608.photobucket.com/albums/tt169/KASarich/
I don't know if the stud was supposed to stay in the head and come out of the tensioner or not, but any info you have would be great. The stud doesnt seem to want to come out of the head, and if it doesn't, and the new tensioner comes with the stud in it, im just going to cut the stud out of the new tensioner and put it on the on that is in the head and make sure that it is flush, because I can get the tensioner back on.

[RWD] [700] 1986 740 Turbo Timing Belt Tensioner -posted by- KASarich

I bought the timing belt and tensioner for my 1986 740 Turbo from IPD today, and then went to take everything apart to get ready for the job. When I went to remove the timing belt tensioner, i couldn't because it is rivited? on. Several posts on this site talk about replacing the tensioner like it is no big deal, so maybe I'm missing something, or don't know how to remove the tensioner properly, because drilling the rivit out seems like a huge deal, and something that I don't want to do. Any information on this would be great. Thanks.

[AWD] [850] [1994] 850 Stalls When Driving -posted by- KASarich

I had a similar problem with my 1993 850, where it would stall while driving/idling, and then be able to be restarted again in a few minutes. I replaced the fuel system relay, the fuel pump relay, and the ignition switch (it was dying anyway), and it seems to have fixed the problem. It hasn't stalled since. Something to look in to, and the parts are all available for a reasonable price at eeuroparts.com.

[AWD] [850] Climate control blower motor. -posted by- KASarich

I removed the knee bolster, and had a look at the relay under the dash. I removed them, and checked the contacts, and put them back in. The blower seems to be working fine for now, but I still have the bolster out, becuase I want to make sure it's working for a while before I put it all back together.

Thanks,

[AWD] [850] Climate control blower motor. -posted by- KASarich

I have a 1993 850 GLT, and the blower motor works when it feels like it. if the switch is in the on position when the car is started, it comes on for a few minutes and then shuts off. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this, becasue I'm hoping its just a bad relay and not something more serious.
