I have an 87 and 88 which require manual timing adjustments. Move tires from front to back and see if problem goes away is easy test. Easy test for rod-ends and ball joints with the front wheels on stands grab the tire at 6 and 12 and try to push and pull it,alot of play bad ball joint. grab tire at 3 and 9 push and pull lot of play bad tie-rod ends or rack. Wheel bearings will need to be properly set for both of theses simple tests. Posting the mileage also will help in pointing you in the right direction.
