[RWD] [444-544] dueling duetts -posted by- smashed54

FINALLY collected the car from Salt Lake City and have the sisters together again. Lilly and Lorna. Looking forward to the work of building a shop and starting the resto. Got the car on the 26 of june and drove across the U.S. to Nova Scotia in four days. The " sisters " are 7 numbers apart in the order of things. Both 61's and identical but for the no's. I'll post pic's later. Great site for me out here in the country. Happy 4th of July... Paul

[RWD] [200] [1990] '90 240 What noise does a worn rear wheel bearing make? -posted by- smashed54

Hi. You describe the exact way my 82 245 was grinding and then quiet when brakes pressed. It was a rear bearing. 200,000 KM. on my car. easy job with bearing press. Don't wait as a fialed bearing is dangerous. Find out what is worn and replace soon. Good luck... Paul

[RWD] [200] Water pump bolt broke off. What now? -posted by- smashed54

Hi. On my 54 Chev. 1/2 ton I had a flush sheared bolt in my exhaust manifold (generator mount) I placed a slightly smaller nut over the bolt hole and carefully welded the nut to the end of the broken bolt. This heated the stud enough to loosen it from the casting and the nut gave means to extract broken stud. I used gass welding to cherry hot the broken bolt. Good luck... Paul

[RWD] [200] under the hood hose detached -posted by- smashed54

Hi. I would replace it with new or good used. I trust the orginal desingers to be competent engineers. I would also invest in a good manual and rely on the knowledgeble "Old Timers" here who have seemingly sound advice. Arm yourself with knowledge. Take care and have fun...
Hey joni74. Easy way is to get someone else to do it. lol The people here are wonderful with help and motovation. Another learning tool I'v used is pick-a-part type places. If colse by you could take some time to paw over a wreck while looking for that elusive option/trim piece. Great resorce for learning procedures and tools.I have 1982 245, two 1961 p210. Learning, inovation, pride of accomplishment. Great cars to have. Enjoy your new craft. Take careand have fun.

[RWD] [200] Early 240s VS Later 240s -posted by- smashed54

Hey Catfish. I'm thinking hard to beat a one owner, 69k brick any year! Although I love my 200k+ 82, 245 I would gain a feeling for your aunt's car after doing repairs and personal touches. My wagon is an insurance salvage and I had the chance to add the 4 head-light front end from a 79? Cool! Been picking up parts to make her mine all along. Shifter, shocks, power windows, drop springs, wheels, clean up the inside. I'll get ready to f+t one day when I find another wright-off. Only advantage may be that older cars are some-what simpler to work on. Mine is N/A with one big carb. No puters, oxy sensor or K-Jet to confound me, although with good tools, books and advice you can fix whatever you want to. Part of having one... ah, well many, of these great cars is to treat them great. Great to be able to choose. lol Well what ever you decide enjoy the ride... Paul
