[RWD] [700] Replace plastic on front bumper -posted by- DPNY

Hi,

I ripped open the black plastic that covers the front bumper when I clipped a iron gate.

Can I remove and replace just the plastic? The aluminum bumper underneath seems good.

If so how do I remove the plastic?

Thanks,

Dean

How many transmission mounts will I need? Might as well replace them also.

On the 1990 740 Turbo with 4 speed standard and OD are the mounts the round or the rectangle style?

Thanks,

[RWD] [700] [1990] Squeak coming from engine near manual transmission -posted by- DPNY

Squeak has been getting slowly worse over about 1000 miles of driving.

It seems to go as the car warms up. Does that still fit the bearing diagnosis?

[RWD] [700] [1990] Squeak coming from engine near manual transmission -posted by- DPNY

It makes the sound when clutch is in or out. Even when I am driving in second gear and at slow speed I can hear it.

Manual transmission with button overdrive.

What does a transmission service entail? Is there a kit of parts? I have good mechanic who will install parts if I take the parts to him.

Can my mechanic replace just the bearings? Does that entail dropping the transmission out?

Thanks for your help,

Dean

[RWD] [700] [1990] Squeak coming from engine near manual transmission -posted by- DPNY

Hi,

I have a squeak that sounds a lot like a fan belt squeak coming from under the car. Seems only when it is cold. It changes a little if I put the clutch in. It is there in all gears.

Does not seem to be causing a problem. Really does sound a lot like a belt squeak but I have checked the belts and actually the sound is coming from under the car near the transmission. The squeak gets faster as the RPM increase. Above 35 miles an hour I cannot hear it. Also I think when the car is warm it goes away.

Manual transmission in 740 Turbo.

Is there something can squeak there when it is worn? Not losing any oil. Car runs well.

Thanks, Dean

[RWD] [700] [1990] AC pressure with retrofit R134a? -posted by- DPNY

I have no leaks and it is fully charged but it is not real cold. Only 68 degrees when measuring the inside vent.

Mechanic suggests I need accumulator. The receiver/dryer.

Installed in my 740 I have a factory retrofit from R12 to R134a.

Can anybody suggest an exact replacement accumulator receiver/dryer? An actual part number or supplier link would be most helpful. USA.

I have taken a photo and can say that from the front of the car one valve goes straight back into the interior of the car and another goes directly forward to the condenser. These two main valves are opposite each other on the accumulator.

Then on the left is a valve that has a cap and no connection. And to the right is an electric sensor connector.

The filler valve is on the pipe from the valve that leads directly back to the interior.

Thanks,

Dean

[RWD] [700] [1990] AC pressure with retrofit R134a? -posted by- DPNY

My 1990 740 turbo AC has ran well for a few years.

It is retrofitted with R134a and it looks like a factory retrofit.

It is no longer that cold but it is still operating.

I think it might just be low on R134a and need some added.

What pressure should it be?

How should I add it?

Thanks,

[RWD] [700] How to get at driver door post switch wire? -posted by- DPNY

I need to tap into the driver door post switch wire. That is the little push in switch in the door post that activates when the door is open or closed.

I need to tap the switch wire to connect to my car alarm.

I am not sure how to access the switch. Or maybe the wire runs under the dash somewhere?

Should I simply remove the switch at the post using a star tool?

Thanks,

[RWD] [700] Ignition wire, parking light circuit, door negative and door lock/unlock harness for alarm install? -posted by- DPNY

Adding remote door locking/unlocking is more involved than I can take on.

So I will simply add the alarm and use the motion sensor that will trigger the siren and maybe the parking lights.

So I am looking for just the best place to tap the ignition wire and the parking lights.

3. And I need access to the door switch circuit that shows ground when the door is open.

4. And I need to access to the door lock/unlock harness to access remote door locking/unlocking.

Thanks!!

[RWD] [700] Head light wire colors which is the dipped beam? -posted by- DPNY

Thanks. Yes you interpret correctly.

I have had to abandon the project. I just can't get a mount for these Hella fogs that is suitable.

I have a 1990 740 turbo and there is no way I can really get these lamps on the bumper or under it.

The factory fogs for this model are under bumper in a housing that attaches to the spoiler. Kind of rare. I have only seen it on one car. But there are a couple photos on the web. Previous to 1990 the fogs were in the scooped spoiler.

And then after 1992 they are above the bumper next to the grill in the dual light configuration.

Anyhow.

Thanks for the information I might need it if I can find the factory fogs.

[RWD] [700] Head light wire colors which is the dipped beam? -posted by- DPNY

Hi,

I got to tap my headlight wire to install fog lights. The tap makes sure the fogs are only one when the dipped beam is on.

The headlight connector has three wires 1, 2 and 3. Colors: Blue with white stripe, green and black.

Does anybody know which color is the dipped beam?

Dipped beam meaning: low beam, regular headlight NOT HIGH BEAM.
