<title>[RWD] [444-544] PCV systems -posted by- volvo65</title>
<description>Ron,
That completely clears it up, the diagram was especially helpful, but I have two more questions: How can you tell if the PCV is working properly and Is there anything inside of the adapter between the filter (Brillo, sponge etc)or is it just hollow?.

<title>[RWD] [444-544] Oil Filler Cap -posted by- volvo65</title>
<description>Hi George,
Now I&#x27;m really confused. One of the responders said that fresh air was drawn from the air cleaner into the engine suggesing that oil wouldn&#x27;t get to the cap. My system seems to work like this: crankcase fumes are sent to the air intake pipe located in the midle of the the intake manifold tube. Fresh clean air is then sent into the engine via the hose from the carb attachmnet to the oil cap. But that doesn&#x27;t make sense either. It would seem to me that any &#x22;blow by&#x22; past the valve seals would go from the valve cover through the &#x22;snorkle&#x22; hose in the oil cap, through the hose and INTO the carb, via the attachment device.

<title>[RWD] [444-544] Oil Filler Cap -posted by- volvo65</title>
<description>I have been all over the net, and all over the forum and couldn&#x27;t find an answer to my question, which probably means it&#x27;s a stupid question. But I have no shame so I&#x27;ll ask. I have a B18 engine with a &#x22;snorkle&#x22; type oil filler cap. I&#x27;m assuming has something to do with ventilation. There are three screws on the cap. I read that there is some sort of &#x22;pot scrubber&#x22; material inside the cap. My question is: does the cap ever need to be opened up and cleaned?
Sorry if I wasted your time, your welcome if it made you laugh.

<title>[RWD] [444-544] Mystery Part -posted by- volvo65</title>
<description>Can anybody tell me what the red bracket is in the photo? It was on the engine when I bought the car and there is a hole in the face toward the radiator, but nothing was mounted to it. The bolts holding it in place are the #3 and #7 head bolts except that the #7 bolt looks a little wimpy compared to the others.

See photo at: http://s205.photobucket.com/albums/bb191/jvh99/?action=view&#x26;current=99-forum-1.jpg

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

<title>[RWD] [444-544] Diesel engine oil after rebuild? -posted by- volvo65</title>
<description>Hi,
I can&#x27;t remember where I read it but I seem to recall several people recommending using diesel engine oil in a b18/b20 engine that has been rebuilt. Does anyone here know anything about the subject?

<title>[RWD] [444-544] B18B Carb set-up -posted by- volvo65</title>
<description>I have read all I can find about the B 18 engines and most of what I read says that the B18B engine was never offered for the PV544. My engine seems to be a B18B because my engine has the &#x22;intermediate piece for the positive ventilation crankcase (B18B early production.)&#x22; between the Carb and air cleaner.

2 questions:
 1. Does anybody know where I can get gaskets for that device and the carbs?
 2. There are three B18B engine combinations (according to the service manual) type 1, type 2 and type 3. There is a difference among the horsepower output for the three types. Does anybody know how to tell the difference between the types?

Thanks!!

<title>[RWD] [444-544] Lock Washers -posted by- volvo65</title>
<description>Thanks for the info!!
I have always used them if I was replacing an assembly that had them. What I was looking for was anyone on this site who believes that one or both of them (washers) are unnecessary. Take a look at a couple of forums and what they have to say about their use.

<title>[RWD] [444-544] Lock Washers -posted by- volvo65</title>
<description>Man am I confused now! even more than usual. I just did a Google search on &#x22;when to use lock washers&#x22; I was amazed at the diametrically opposed views on these things. All I wanted to know basically was when to use one and when to use one with a flat washer. There are people who say the best place to store them is in the trash and others that swear you absolutely need to use them. A lot of the folks I read about throw the old ones away when it comes time to rebuild something.

So what&#x27;s the deal?
