<title>[RWD] [200] Why is the 1989 245 a Clunker? -posted by- Springfresh</title>
<description>fueleconomy.gov has it listed as 16mpg city and 22mpg highway. That&#x27;s how they got the 18mpg combined figure.

<title>[RWD] [200] Auto trans shift linkage on backwards? -posted by- Springfresh</title>
<description>I&#x27;ve had some probs recently with the linkage from my shift lever to my auto transmission on my 1992 245. The retaining clip popped off and I wasn&#x27;t able to shift into or out of gear. I installed a new clip, but to my surprise it only lasted a couple weeks.

I probably need new bushings and the adjustment was really sloppy and loose. I&#x27;m also wondering if the rod has been installed backwards and if it needs to be flipped around.

I&#x27;ve posted a picture. As I found it, the clevis is attached to the transmission lever. In illustrations in both the Hanes and Bentley manuals it&#x27;s the rod end that&#x27;s attached to the lever, not the clevis.

Do I need to turn the rod around? Amm I using the right retaining ring?

I need to get around to posting my Flame trap and rear shocks videos. I tried shooting video of installing motor mounts but it was impossible to get video in there.</description>

I had my &#x27;87 740T up to 120mph once and I felt like I was floating and totally unstable. That lasted like 2 minutes.

My biggest expense was the AC replacement/conversion at $900.

<title>[RWD] [200] speaker replacement for 1991 245 -posted by- Springfresh</title>
<description>I rigged a set of 5 1/4 speakers into the stock screens. I don&#x27;t have pics, although I may be able to make some now that they seem to be a little wacky lately.

I did a sound proofing job on the doors at the time, but it&#x27;s not required. I pulled the door lining out and cut a piece of wood the size of the speaker indentation. I then cut a hole wider than the magnet and using metal screws I attached it to the door. I then reinstalled the door liner and screwed the speakers in. The screw holes don&#x27;t perfectly match, but at least a couple do. The screws just go through the plastic and into the wood. This keeps the whole speaker nice and solid so it doesn&#x27;t just hang in the liner.

I pulled the metal grill of the speaker cover and exagerated the convexity. I shaved the inside of the cover to make it wider, then glued the grill on top, rather than inside. This allowed the rubber surround and center horn to fit.

The nice solid speaker mount and the butyl rubber and closed-cell foam sound proofing improved the sound a ton. One of these days I&#x27;ll get a powered sub to complete the system, because 5 1/4 just can&#x27;t power my Mastodon CDs.

<title>[RWD] [200] 240 bio-diesel conversion on teeny-bopper show -posted by- Springfresh</title>
<description>Fox Family has a show called &#x22;10 things I Hate About you&#x22; where the main character drives a yellow 244. Tonight&#x27;s episode has her taking it into the shop to convert it to bio-diesel. The whole episode is online now and I skimmed through it. Starts out with a funny scene where it backfires smoke on a couple kids. Later there&#x27;s lots of great shots of the car up on jacks and with the hood open.

<title>[RWD] [200] AC dumps water on my feet -posted by- Springfresh</title>
<description>I used my AC on a long trip and after a while I could hear water sloshing around under the dash. If I took a turn and bunch of water would splash into the interior, right onto my feet and the passenger side.

My buddy says it&#x27;s probably condensation that&#x27;s not able to escape. He said there&#x27;s probably a clog somewhere. Anyone know if there&#x27;s a hose or something that usually allows the water to flow to the ground?

<title>[RWD] [200] iPD lowering springs: Need adjustable torque and panhard rods too? -posted by- Springfresh</title>
<description>I&#x27;m thinking of getting lowering springs during iPD&#x27;s on-line garage sale next week. Are the adjustable Panhard and torque rods a requirement with them, or could I make do with just an alignment? I&#x27;m getting tires installed this week and don&#x27;t need the added expense so I&#x27;d love to get away without them. I have new shocks, struts and bushings already. Or am I just asking for trouble?

<title>[RWD] [200] Bilstein Touring vs. KYB Gas A-just rear shock preference -posted by- Springfresh</title>
<description>I just pulled a pair of 2 year old KYB Gas-A-Just off the rear of my wagon and replaced with Sachs Advantage/Boge Turbo Gas. I&#x27;m much happier with the ride.

The KYBs were just too mushy; the rear would bounce too much when rolling over bumps at low speed and the rear axle felt out of control when hitting expansion joints on a curve. Both of those issues are gone now. The Sachs are giving me the ride I&#x27;ve always wanted but took 3 years of work to get.

<title>[RWD] [200] What size speaker fits the front doors on a 92 240 wagon? -posted by- Springfresh</title>
<description>I screwed 5 1/4&#x22; Kenwoods into mine, through the factory base plate. I then took the screen out of the factory face and glued it OUTSIDE of the panel. This gave more clearance for the horn. Works great for me.

<title>[RWD] [200] Why do these Sachs Advantage Shocks have Booties? -posted by- Springfresh</title>
<description>I just got a pair of Sachs Advantage rear shocks from FCP and I&#x27;m surprised to find they have accordian boots on one end, rather than a metal cylinder. At first I though I accidentally got struts. They don&#x27;t look like the shocks pictured on FCP or iPD. But they&#x27;re labeled right. Anyone else seen this?

<title>[RWD] [200] [1991] in dash radio -posted by- Springfresh</title>
<description>Oh joy...

Many stereos have an adapter that comes with it. I bought a Kenwood and it had a thin metal shell that allowed me to fit it into my dash. The wiring was a pain in the ass though.

If I remember right I didn&#x27;t have the wiring harness, or else it only worked for power and not speakers. I ended up having to rewire all my door speakers, which wasn&#x27;t so bad, since they were new speakers too. But it wasn&#x27;t a quick pull-and-swap job like I&#x27;d hoped. Good luck!

I&#x27;ve installed sound dampening in 3 of my doors so far and it GREATLY improves the quality of music. Highly recommended. The sound doesn&#x27;t get lost in the door cavities and it gives much better mid-bass. I can&#x27;t wait to do the floorboards to cut out road noise.

<title>[RWD] [200] A word of caution, though (especially if you live in pothole country) .... -posted by- Springfresh</title>
<description>Yeah, my area (New York city and surrounding) has pretty bad potholes. Sometimes it&#x27;s like driving on a washboard.

The other problem is the tires my friend is offering are summer tires, and while it would be nice to have a set of summers and get winter tires for my Virgos, I know it&#x27;ll be a PITA to change them out for the seasons, especially since I live in the city and don&#x27;t have a garage.
