[AWD] Double Check the Spring Seats!!! -posted by- DumbAsBricks

I futzed around and replaced just about every suspension bushing before I actually broke down and decided to replace the struts. When I broke down the strut, GUESS WHAT I FOUND?!??!?!

The spring seat had dissentigrated where the strut was inserted into it. You cannot really tell, but a good way indicator is if there is rubber dust in the strut well (on top or on bottom). Just pop off the little cap and have a looksie.

[AWD] [850] [1994] engine light is on -posted by- DumbAsBricks

I have a 98 V70 and AutoZone sold me a new gas cap and reset my light for me for no additional costs(not every tech will reset the light, or even knows how). Total costs $11.

Wortha try. If anything, Autozone will read your code for free.

[AWD] [V70] [1999] Who has delaminating or bubbling vinyl door panels? -posted by- DumbAsBricks

1998 Volvo V70

First noticed at 49K miles...now with 66K miles, all four passenger doors are delaminating.

What is the cheapest way to redo these doors?

[RWD] [200] [1988] Question about front Struts and rear shocks -posted by- DumbAsBricks

I put in KYBs in the front and rear. I think they are perfect right now. I paid around $100 for the set with a lifetime warranty. I do fear that they will go soft in about 2 years, but won't go 'out' for a lot longer. They are not adjustable.

Also consider the pain in the ass it is to replace the struts. I would go all out and do everything (struts, strut mounts, front bushings, sway bar bushing, tie rod ends, ball joints, and wheel bearings) and then get a proper alignment.

[RWD] [200] suspension -posted by- DumbAsBricks

I agree, run away fast.

There ARE control arm bushing in the front, only lower control arms. There are no upper control arms like some chevy's.

If you ever have doubt, check to see if the parts are available from fcpgroton.com, vlvworld.com, ipdusa.com etc etc. I normally buy from fcpgroton, but I use ipdusa if I have a little extra cash to buy the nicer stuff.

Ebay is good too.

[RWD] [200] Reverse Lights - Now what? -posted by- DumbAsBricks

I kind of question how the switch works, that is why I went ahead and installed the replacement. How far into the switch housing does the button go? Does the switch have to be grounded/installed to work properly?

[RWD] [200] Reverse Lights - Now what? -posted by- DumbAsBricks

I ordered a new reverse light switch, installed it, and it still doesn't work. That, I have to say, was a jigantic pain in the arse! This is the only thing I need to pass inspection. So I am dying to become street legal.

I have a 1984 Vovlo 240 GL Sedan. It is a 4 cyl and I also found that I was running on 3 cylinders! The engine does run a little smoother and just a tiny bit more power.

When I short the wires that connect to the switch, the lights DO come on. If I connect the wires to either switch and just push down on the button on the switch, they DO NOT come on. I figured it must be a grounded switch, so I installed the new switch and hooked up everything and put the tranny crossmember back on and no luck.

My local mechanic told me that something is loose inside the tranny and it has to come off. IS THERE ANYWAY TO AVOID THIS? I don't have a cement driveway. I have to lay in the dirt or on cardboard to get under there. HELP!

[AWD] [S70] [1999] Check Engine Light -posted by- DumbAsBricks

Also, if you are too cheap to buy the one from IPD, you can obtain a generic OBDII Reader and reset too on ebay for less than $50. It DOES NOT read the codes correctly, only resets the check engine light. If the check engine light did come on for a reason, it will no doubt come on again.

[AWD] [V70] [1998] What is this strut part called? See pic -posted by- DumbAsBricks

I cannot seem to find the name of the rubber covered metal plate that holds the strut to the top of the chassis. The rubber seems to have worn out and it is making a sound like shaking a quarter in an aluminum can. I swapped the parts and the noise followed the worn out rubber piece. Anybody?

[AWD] [V70] [1998] Loud motor ticking V70R -posted by- DumbAsBricks

Don't forget to inspect the exhaust gaskets, turbo manifold and downpipe. Sometimes an exhaust leak will make that ticking noise. A small leak will be louder when you start the engine and then seemingly go away in a minute or two. A larger leak will be louder then quieter, but still noticeable.

[RWD] [200] [1984] Which seats will fit a 1984 240 GL? -posted by- DumbAsBricks

I just picked up a 1984 240 GL. In very bad need of replacement seats. Local Volvo specialty quoted me $350 for replacement cloth seats, installed.

Do seats from the 740s 760s or 850s fit? Anything? Thanks in advance.
