[RWD] [S90-V90] [1998] loose shifter... -posted by- Mybricks

Hello all.

98 v90 131k...

Wifes car, not sure when this started, but the shifter is loose, with a 1 inch play...
It seems to also correspond to a clicking noise from underneath the car when she shifts from r - d. Like, a click-click-click through the gears. The car drives fine...

but it seems weird...

Any ideas...

Thanks so much...

[RWD] [700] [1989] brake lights... -posted by- Mybricks

89 745T, 263k...

Okay, so my two main brake lights do not work. The bulb out indicator works though, since it comes on every time I step on the brake. Obviously, replaced bulbs; no luck. Replaced Bulb out relay; no luck. Why would the center brake light work and not the two back side brake lights? It is getting dangerous, but I have to drive it!!!

Please help...

[RWD] [S90-V90] [1998] Thump when shifting -posted by- Mybricks

1998 v90, 125k....

So, went camping this weekend. Parked car on decline. Put on E-brake. Go to start car, disengage E-brake, put car in Drive, and there was a large thump as if the Tranny was doing soemthing crazy loud...Not sure how else to desribe it, but it made me cringe...Drove fine for the 3 hour trip home, and engaged fine.

What could it be?

In addition, we want to buy pop-up to tow, and now I am not sure about the tranny?

Thanks so much for any assitance -

[RWD] [S90-V90] [1998] transmission noise -posted by- Mybricks

1998 v90. 125k. wow, its been a while since I posted.

When I back the car out of he driveway, obviously, in reverse, upon engaging the car into drive from dead stop, there seems to be some slight thud, or movement in the gear as it changes??!! What could this be? Obviously, something with the transmission.

Should I start by doing a fluid flush? I bought the car from a owner who had maintained at Dealer, and the records indicated dealer transmission services. Not sure what the dealer does, but have some recollection, taht it is not a fluid flush.

Any suggestions would be great.

Peace -

[RWD] [S90-V90] [1998] New to me V90 - How do I clean the engine bay? -posted by- Mybricks

Just bought a 98 v90. Looks and crives great. All records and all work done at dealer. 113k. Price was fine. Was wondering though, how do I clean the engine bay? I like the clean look, not that it is too dirty, just dusty and some dirt. Want to keep it clean to make it easier to see any leaks, etc. Any suggestions?

Thanks -

[RWD] [900] [1994] cannot shift out of park!!! -posted by- Mybricks

Spook, thanks so much. Checked out fuse # 4 first, and pulled it, cleaned it, and it worked right away. I think I put too much dielectric on it!!! I cleaned them all yesterday. maybe I should go back in and wipe most of the stuff off the rest of the fuses. The reason I cleaned them is that there was some, what it seemed like, coffee or hot chocolate spilled on the fuse panel....

So cleaned with electric cleaning spray and then greased all the contacts. Maybe a rookie mistake.

Thanks though.

[RWD] [900] [1994] Dome Light replacement -posted by- Mybricks

1994 945 Regina. 157k./

Seem to be having a few electrical problems....

Dome light has not been working. Have actually removed it. If I attach it, it shorts, and busts fuse# 5. At that point the door charm continuously chimes, so have to remove it...Clock doesn't work. I know they are all related.

I have read that the dome light can short. Where can I buy a decent replacement for less than $121 from the dealer. New????

May go to the junkyard this weekend.. Pick up some stuff!!!

Peace and thanks for everything....

[RWD] [900] [1994] cannot shift out of park!!! -posted by- Mybricks

1994 945 Regina. 157k.

Ok, so yesterday I cleaned out all of my fuses, and center console, and heated seat switches and the entire area. It looks great.

This morning, my wife could not get the car out of park!!

I read in the FAQ something about a microswitch.....

Is this the cause?
Did I break something?

If so, is it easy to fix? HOW?

Thanks so much.

[RWD] [900] [1994] Valve Clearance costs -posted by- Mybricks

1994 945 NA Regina 156k.

Okay, so a buddy of mine has a friend.... Well this is the true story. This buddy has a friend that has a 945 with similar idle problems as I do. Nothing could fix it until.....

Mechanic decided to take off valve cover and discovered that the valve clearance was off.

How much would this job cost. Assuming that the clearance was off and needed to be adjusted. Whatever it usually would entail.. I have never had this done, and the PO of my car is my friend with the buddy and he had never had it done either. So we are at ~50K without clearance checked.

Any help. Throw out a ball park...

Thanks -

[RWD] [900] [1994] TPS replacement -posted by- Mybricks

1994 945 NA - Regina - 156k.

Still wresting with this rough idle that I have had for a year or so. I think i narrow the problem down and then replace or fix one thing, and there it still persisits.

Recent work includes. replacement - ECT, CPS, O2 sensor, Plugs, Cap, Rotor, Intake Gasket, Brake booster, timing belt, Cleaned TC + IACV.

Ok, so the next thing is replacement of the TPS.

Anyone have specifics, and recent advice on this procedure that are not listed otherwise. I have read enough, and want real hands on experience.

Suprisingly, the cheapest REGINA TPS that I can find is at the dealer for $80.

If this fails, then I am going to bring it in to the dealer for help. The local volvo indy specialist told me it was a bad ECU. NOT> Three known good ones did not fix the problem

Thanks again

[RWD] [900] [1994] Update: IDle driving me crazy -posted by- Mybricks

1994 945 N/A REgina 155K

So, my idle issues continue. Did a little of this and a little of that. Couple of people suggested some ideas, including the TPS>

When I went home for lunch today, tried a couple of things, while the car was running.
1) disconnected the Mass Air sensor in air intake tube, and nothing changed, I mean nothing. The CEL came on, but I reset it when I re-attached the sensor... Does that mean that the MAF..thing is bad??

2) Disconnected the TPS. The idle was fluctuating between 750-900, and then, upon disconnection, the idle jumped up to ~2000 rpm. This seems to be something that should happen.

3) Disconnected the IACV. Idle dropped immediately to ~200 rpm, for 1-12 seconds and then the car died. Reattached and it ran the same.

Based on these three, it seems that the MAF is at fault. removing it makes no difference....

Please advise from here....

Thanks so much -

[RWD] [900] [1994] Idle Driving me crazy -posted by- Mybricks

Spook, thanks for the detailed response.

I did some quick research, and it seems that I do not have a power stage, since this is a regina car. I changed out the IACV recently, and it had no change in anything.

I am going to take a chance and see if it is the coil. My question is this. How would the coil impact my car while it is running? I heard of people cleaning the coil, and that helping others.

Any other ideas to explore, and think about, before i venture off to the junkyard....????

[RWD] [900] [1994] Idle Driving me crazy -posted by- Mybricks

Ok. 94 945 n/a. 153k. Regina car.
my idle is driving me crazy, as it has for the past 6 months. Haev tried to fix many things. Great experience, but still driving me crazy.

Car starts and runs fine. When the car tuns for 10 - 15 seconds, the idle fluctuates, hunts, whatever you want to call it between 750 and 900 rpm, non stop, every second. Whoom, whoom, whoom. I have done the following.

cleaned: TB, IACV,
replaced: intake mani. gasket, plugs, rotor, cap, RPM sensor(fixed other problem), timing belt (needed it), O2 sensor(code popped up).

I am sick of trying things.

I believe that it is a vacuum leak, but I am not sure how o find this.

I brought the car into indy shop and they told me it was my ECU. Ha, wrong.. put in two correct ECU's and they didn't work either. It muct be something else.

Please help me. My wife wants to get rid of the car. Which is in great shape otherwise.

Thank you. this board has saved me... makes me want to contribute.....

Peace -
