[AWD] [850] Sputtering at speed 94 850 turbo -posted by- masonman

It's been acting up lately, driving at all speeds. It's seems like it's starving off and on. Every now and again it stalls completely, I pull over, shut key off for 15 seconds and starts back up again and off I go. Last time this happened it was the fuel pump. This time I don't know where to start.
Car has alot of problems and I'm starting to get tired of fixing it myself. J Just need help diagnosing. Car has 238K bad oil leak front main seal, heater core leaks, losing my brakes, can't roll down windows because of exhuast smell
comes in when you let up on the gas pedal, starts to smoke after idling for 5 minutes. Any help would be great!

Help me keep the faith!

[AWD] [850] Crank pulley removal -posted by- masonman

Need to get center crank pulley off. Any ideas on how I can hold the crank in place
while I break and remove the center nut? Pix would be great or links to instructions would be really nice. Doing this to replace the front crank seal, it's been leaking for years and I figure it's time to fix it, since it now is losing a quart oil every 500 miles (snythetic)Ouch!.

  Thanks for any help!!!

[AWD] [850] AC, what else? -posted by- masonman

Anyone know where the high side connection is on my 94 turbo? I have ALL the same
problems as most. Is the radiator fan suppose to kick on when ac is turn on?
Low side gauge reading is in the red until it kicks on then it goes down to 60 or 70 on 90 degree day. It will sometimes get ice cold(going down the highway) then suddenly stop working. It usually won't do well at a light.

[AWD] [850] [1994] Exhaust fumes -posted by- masonman

I'm getting exhaust fumes in car when I let up on the gas pedal while driving. Had a mechanic blow smoke up my tailpipe(haha). He didn't find any leaks, he said. I have 207K and have not changed the Cat.. When I replaced the turbo I noticed there wasn't any gasket. Any Ideas?

[AWD] [850] Stalling/Cutout on highway, fuel delivery -posted by- masonman

Thanks everyone! Turns out to be the pump itself as I suspected. Replaced it with "Walbro Pump" needs to be modified a little but worked fine and quiet ($72.00 cheap). Had trouble getting
fuel lines back on correctly(all the way on).I got fuel all over the top of the tank. It will probably stink for a while. If anybody has suggestions to get rid of it>

[AWD] [850] Stalling/Cutout on highway, fuel delivery -posted by- masonman

Klaus,
Thanks alot for your help! Relays are working fine just as you describe.
I not hearing the pump at all. How quiet or loud is the pump, when seat forward,
trunkmat removed, and pump cover removed? I would think that I could hear it at this point. There are DTC's 535 143 315 433 443 no CEL. I dont think any relate to my problem.

Thanks again!!!!!

[AWD] [850] Stalling/Cutout on highway, fuel delivery -posted by- masonman

Problem is I don't exactly know how the fuel pump relay works. does it relay enough power to prime the injectors then shut down until it starts? or does it stay on full time while key is in II position? I'm starting to lean toward the pump being bad.

[AWD] [850] Stalling/Cutout on highway, fuel delivery -posted by- masonman

This problem has been getting worse for about a year. Driving down highway and suddenly car dies. Usally within minutes it starts and goes for a couple of days without any problem. I checked fuel rail for pressure with key on. It had none. Then checked fuel pump relay(fuse box)and fuse. Fuse ok . Relay makes a click when key is turn on followed by(1 Sec.)another click(key still on). Checked fuel pump voltage, when key turned on, voltage goes to 11.9 then 1 sec later 0.0 . Checked fuel system relay(fan shroud) works fine. Any Ideas?
While doing all this it did start but ran awful then died . Think it would be possible to jump the fuel pump relay to check pump? Is there any thing else I could check? Note: I replaced fuel pump relay still same problem.

[AWD] [850] [1995] What is the name of this part? -posted by- masonman

It's a "heated nipple".? Got that from the ALLDATA DYI site. I've had to work on that part recently. Test it by hooking alligator clamps direct from the battery.
Be Careful!!,also make sure the vaccum port and pcv port are clear,as they can
cause excessive internal engine pressure.
