<title>[RWD] [120-130] GT Look Mirrors -posted by- rogers@bigfoot.de</title>
<description>I just found that SCANDCAR in the Netherlands offers GT look mirrors for just 29.50 Euro. The mirrors are certainly not the original 123GT mirrors, but they may be an acceptable substitute for some purposes.

You can see them at:

<title>[RWD] [120-130] Original Rim Size for 1969 Amazon -posted by- rogers@bigfoot.de</title>
<description>I just bought 4 new tires (175/70/15 86H Vredestein Sprint Classic) for my 1969 Amazon. In the process of mounting them we discovered that the car has been driving with two different sizes of rims.....4&#x22; in the front and 4.5&#x22; in the back!

Which is the correct original size rim?

Thanks for your help.

<title>[RWD] [120-130] Original Amazon Electric Dash Mounted Clock -posted by- rogers@bigfoot.de</title>

Yep, it is just a &#x22;stick-on&#x22; temp gage showing the temperature inside the car.

It appears that Jack and I are like minded, but there is no conspiracy. It must be a Missouri thing.

<title>[RWD] [120-130] Original Amazon Electric Dash Mounted Clock -posted by- rogers@bigfoot.de</title>
<description>Hi Matt,

Yes, the 1969 model year Amazons had a column mounted ignition as well as a locking steering wheel, dual circuit brakes, B20 engine, and improved brake servo. However, the door pockets, roof chrome, nose chrome, back seat arm rest, and hand brake chrome was missing on the 1969 Amazons.

I liked all of those missing trim items and have built them back into my 1969 model. Amazons built after 1 Jan 1968 could not be imported to the US due to the (then) new EPA regulations. I think that has since eased for old-timers, but at the time it was strongly enforced.

I imported a 1968 123GT from Germany to the US in 1969 and had to obtain a certificate from Volvo that the car was built before 1 Jan 1968. The certificate stated that the car was built in Dec 1967.....good enough for me and the EPA at the time.

My current 1969 123GT was initially registered in Switzerland as were most 1969 123GTs and was brought here to Germany about 1985. I bought it 7 years ago.

<title>[RWD] [120-130] Original Amazon Electric Dash Mounted Clock -posted by- rogers@bigfoot.de</title>
<description>Hi Jack,

Greatings to St Louis. Yes, I&#x27;ve seen your clock before and I must say it gave me motivation to finally get mine installed. Thanks.

Now, can you give me a quick lesson in how to insert photos into your Brickboard text. Thanks again.

<title>[RWD] [120-130] Original Amazon Electric Dash Mounted Clock -posted by- rogers@bigfoot.de</title>
<description>Some of the very early Amazons came with an electric clock as standard equipment. It was mounted in the dash to the right of the radio where the grab handle is in the later models.

The first link below is from an early Amazon brochure and shows the clock very clearly. Unfortunately, the brochure is not dated. If my memory serves me correctly the electric clock came only in the 1958 and 1959 model years.

http://rogers-ben.com/personal/Scannen0004.jpg

Two other brochures dated Jul and Aug 1959 (model year 1960) do not show the clock as standard equipment.

I was fortunate enough to obtain one of these original Amazon clocks a few years back. The clock has the date Jan 1959 stamped on the back of the works. My intention was to mount it where the ash tray normally is. Two things slowed me down: 1. the clock of course runs on 6 Volt current and 2. although the clock face is not any bigger than the ash tray, the works are and the ash tray hole must be increased and then the clock face would be too small for the hole.

I knew that these two problems could be relatively easily overcome, but I still hesitated because I was concerned that the end product would not look &#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#156;original&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#157;. Finally, last fall I gave the clock to a friend who tinkers with everything. He was able to convert it to 12 volt, but since it had not been run for a number of years the clock did not work. With a little more tinkering he solved that too. Another friend who works with metal made a plate to fit over the clock&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#153;s original frame and it looks relatively original.

Now I had no choice, the clock had to be mounted. So, I took out the ash tray and cut out the dash hole, wired the clock so that the built in light comes on only when the dash lights are on and BINGO&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#166;&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#166;here is the final result&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#166;&#x26;#226;&#x26;#128;&#x26;#166;..

<title>[RWD] [120-130] Steering Gear Leak -posted by- rogers@bigfoot.de</title>
<description>Since the winter snow has finally melted and the salt is gone from the streets, I have taken my car out of winter storage and find that I have a leak from the steering gear box. What I find stange is that the steering gear box started leaking while the car was stationary for five months.

I have ordered the gaskets and seals to repair and would appreciate any tips on removing the steering gear and repairing it.

Thanks for your help.

<title>[RWD] [120-130] Sources for 122 parts??? -posted by- rogers@bigfoot.de</title>
<description>Here is one that is in Germany, but he has a lot of things you cannot find anywhere else like chromed air intake grill, chromed door plates, chromed rear pop-out window frames, etc. He is also fabricating the thumb ring for the hand brake tip which should be available soon. Reinhard speaks English and is very dependable. I&#x27;ve dealt with him for at least five years.

<title>[RWD] [120-130] New owner of a 123GT -posted by- rogers@bigfoot.de</title>
<description>Hi Bruno,

Nice looking car. The teardrop mirrors on your car are exactly like the mirrors that came on my 1968 123GT that I bought new in Germany in May 1968. I also have original German Volvo adds that show this same mirror rather than the &#x22;original&#x22; flat 123GT mirror which was similar to the Duett mirror which had a smaller face and a longer arm. They had of course different part #s.

If you or anyone else would like a copy of the German Volvo adds showing this mirror, please send me your email address and I&#x27;ll send it to you.

<title>[RWD] [120-130] New owner of a 123GT -posted by- rogers@bigfoot.de</title>
<description>Hi Derek,

Yes, as far as I know the only 1969 B20B engined 123GTs were sold in Switzerland. Mine was registered in Jan 1969 in Switzerland.

The Swiss 123GTs like all 123GTs came with the Smith&#x27;s Rev Counter (aka Tacometer), chrome fitted reclining seats, lights under the hood (aka bonnet) and trunk lid, fog lights, and most importantly, the electric overdrive.

As for the unique 123GT mirrors (which are a must as far as I&#x27;m concerned), yes, the 1969 Swiss 123GTs had only one mirror. However, other markets had none even in 1967-68.

I bought my first 123GT new in 1968 here in Germany. It had two mirrors, but they were not the 123GT mirrors. They were the Talbot &#x22;tear drop&#x22; or &#x22;racing&#x22; mirrors. They were OK, but not the real thing. In 1968 I tried to get the 123GT mirrors and was not able to. In other markets, no fender mirrors were mounted on the 123GTs. Remember, the mirrors were dealer mounted. That accounts for the fact that there was no standard point where the mirrors were mounted on the fenders.

In addition, my 1969 123GT had the major improvements that all 1969-70 Amazons had such as the dual-circuit brake system, ignition on the steering column, locking steering wheel, and four way flashers.

As with all 1969-70 Amazons, it was missing some nice details that were on the 1967-68 123GTs and other Amazons of those years such as: inside door pockets, center arm rest for the rear seat, chrome trim on the rain gutters, chrome trim on the hand brake......but as you see from my photos, those were easily refitted.

One other nice additional option that I have added is the knee protectors thanks to our Swedish friend, Fredrik. Still, my car remains &#x22;original&#x22; as all of these options were available from Volvo in 1969.

Jerry
PS: I&#x27;ll see if I can make the photos bigger. Thanks. </description>

<title>[RWD] [120-130] New owner of a 123GT -posted by- rogers@bigfoot.de</title>
<description>Hi Matt,

Congratulations. You have in your possession perhaps the best Volvo ever built. Yes, there are original mirrors and fog light still out there. Don&#x27;t pay $700+. Just be patient and you will find them at a much more reasonable price. Mirrors can always be rechomed and look like new so take any condition.

I would also advise you not to accept substitues. Stick to the original.

I have one of the few 1969 B20B engined 123GT still around, but have outfitted it like the 1967-68 model 123GT. You can see it at: http://www.rogers-ben.com/personal/

I&#x27;ll keep an eye open for you here in Germany. Good luck.

<title>[RWD] [120-130] Fuel Tank Sender Replacement -posted by- rogers@bigfoot.de</title>
<description>I&#x27;m not sure who posted it, but thanks for the tip about the VDO sender Part # 226-001 being a perfect match for the Volvo fuel sender. I have found the VDO sending unit for as little as $24-$28 which is a lot cheaper than the Volvo part.

However, when I went to order the VDO fuel sender they indicate that I also need the Bolt On Fuel Sender Flange Part # 226-451 which costs an additional $20.

I thought I need only the fuel sender and a gasket that should cost no more than a couple of bucks. Am I being taken? Do I need the bolt on flange?

Thanks for your advice.

<title>[RWD] [120-130] 123GT with Ruddspeed Engine -posted by- rogers@bigfoot.de</title>
<description>Hi Dave,

Thanks for the clarification concerning your 131. I must however correct you about the 123GT. There were in fact a limited number of 123GTs produced in the 1969 model year with a B20 engine, dual-circuit brake system, locking steering wheel, etc. They did not have headrests since they were not standard until the 1970 model year, but that was easier to add as an option since the fixtures were in fact already built into the seats.

Most of these B20B engined 123GTs were exported to Switzerland where the GT kits were installed. My car was first registered in Switzerland as a new car in Jan 1969, it was later brought to Germany where I bought it seven years ago.

You can see the car at: http://www.rogers-ben.com/personal/#

The car orignally came with cream colored interior, but as you see I changed that to the golden brown color which the 1967-68 123GTs came with. As with all the 1969-70 Amazons the door pockets and the rear seat middle arm rest was missing. As you see, I added those back in too. The 1969-70 models were also lacking the nose chrome and the roof rain rim chrome and those too have been added back on my 1969 123GT. I also added the US market optional knee protectors thanks to Fredrick in Sweden.

So, I guess you can say that I have the best of both worlds, a 123GT and the 1969-70 improvements. Please let me know if you have any questions.
