[AWD] [850] [1995] full economy problem. -posted by- REP

Just had the PCV system totally replaced at 295K and had a new radiator installed as well.
But the problem is now that I got this done my full economy went from 28 - 30 mpg, down to 21 - 23 mpg.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be the cause? Puzzled and discouraged here. I figured I would have had an increase not the other way around.
Also, notice I get an A2 -315 code? Does something need to be replaced? If so, what? Where can I get one?

Thanks.

[AWD] [850] [1995] roof racks -posted by- REP

I did some extra checking on this and the load bars where put on correctly as far as what should be front and rear setups. I noticed that the load bars have a volvo pictured under the black covers showing you what position that they belong in. (the picture is of a wagon). Does that have any bearing as to whether or not they could be on a sedan? According to the volvo dealers around hear it should not matter.

Still can not line up the volvo lock kits for these at all.

[AWD] [850] [1995] roof racks -posted by- REP

Hello, I just got a used in great shape roof rack system for my car. Looking to do the install and put the volvo locks into it as well. Does anyone have the step by step instruction on the install of these?
I get the units on the car with no problem, but when I try and install the volvo lock kits I just can't get everything to line up correctly. What is being done wrong here? Looking for some help thanks.

[AWD] [850] Oil additive at 190,000miles -posted by- REP

Okay, Let help you out here.

Oil additives are a bunch of hype and are expressly not recommended by the vehicle manufacturers. They are a secondary market for which people get played on thinking they are a necessary need and a fix, but they are neither.

Get yourself the best quality synthetics in the market and you will have none of these issues. Amsoil is the Market Leader in this technology and can outfit your vehicle from top to bottom with the best stuff. Period!

refer to my site: www.weareoil.com
Should you requre additional information let me know and I will be glad to assist in any way that I can.

http://www.weareoil.com/questions_and_answers.htm

Take a look at the above link. This should help you out. I can also give you a complete printout on your vehicle as well. Should you require further assistance email me at rpiescik@comcast.net

I own a 95 volvo 850 with 283K miles on it and still going strong.

[AWD] [850] [1995] Radio speaker upgrade? -posted by- REP

Okay, here we go.

I just did a complete upgrade to my 1995 Volvo 850 GLT Sedan. This upgrade required absolutely no minor or major modifications.

I will list out by location what you will need to do the job with no problems at all.

Starting with Rear Deck on the Sedan. The OEM speakers are originally 8 ohm. The direct replacements will be 4 ohm.

Wiring info that you will need to know.

Right Rear: Volvo(pink/white) is positive (use wide connector)
Volvo(pink/black) is negative (use narrow connector)

Left Rear: Volvo(brown/white) is positive (use wide connector)
Volvo(brown/black) is negative (use narrow connector)

For speakers I used Kenwood KFC-1382ie (3-ways) 160 watts max.

Volvo 850 Speaker Brackets (part # 142sav05)
5-1/4" rear deck adapter brackets for 1993 Volvo 850

Also need, Crimp-on Nylon insulated closed end connectors, part #64-3041 from Radio Shack.

Next,

All four doors.

Direct replacement speakers. I used

Kenwood KFC-1062S (3-ways) 120 watts max.

Volvo Speaker Brackets (part # 212560314)
4" or 5" adapter plates
&
Volvo Speaker Brackets (part # 264560016)
1983-up, 4" or 5" adapter plates

These speakers will be a direct connect on your Volvo.

Should you have any further questions, let me know.
If you want go to www.crutchfield.com, use the following referral code of (pdz7k-9jyd9-te5si).
When you place an order of $200 or more and use the referral code that I supplied you will receive a $20 credit on your first order.

Everything that I just gave you above I got from Crutchfield and they are OEM direct replacements for the car. My whole set up including new receiver, all hardware and speakers came to $389 shipped direct to my door.
Should you have further questions, you can email me directly at rpiescik@comcast.net. Talk to you later.

[AWD] [850] [1995] Diagnostic Trouble codes -posted by- REP

Is this SL solenoid located in the same area as the S1 & S2 soleniods? or is it external on the transmission housing?

As far as the EVAP goes. I was thinking of replacing all of it anyways since the car is getting up there in miles. 283K on it and that has never really been an issue until now. So I was figuring on doing it all up.

[AWD] [850] [1995] Diagnostic Trouble codes -posted by- REP

Looking for some help here.

A1- Transmission.

error code 332.

History:
Tranny was replaced about 11 months ago. Had new Volvo PNP switch put on and S1 & S2 Solenoids replaced at the same time. So not sure what is going on here, but I can definately tell on the fuel economy. loosing 3 to 4 mpg because of this.

Also unable to clear the code for a reset. Help.

A2-Engine.

error code 315

The only thing that has never been checked is the canister unit. Should I get this replaced?

The car has 283K on it and is going strong.

Looking to fix these issues. Thanks.

[AWD] [850] [1995] No Reverse Lights -posted by- REP

This just started to happen with in the past couple of weeks. I put the vehicle in reverse only not to see the reverse lights go on. I checked bulbs and wiring and that is perfectly fine. Could this issue be related to the PNP switch on the Transmission Housing? I've also notice that sometimes the car will not start in the park position, but instead in the nuetral position. Again is this the PNP Switch giving out. Also noticed that the automatic is shifting at differing points now and is not running effecient at all. Is this also related to the PNP Switch?
Now, I have an extra PNP Switch that was new about 1000 miles ago from my old transmission, but when the transmission house took the unit off they kind of messed up the black plastic end of it. Does anyone know were I could get another good black plastic end and replace the damaged one?
Thanks.
Also, does anyone have step by step instructions on how to replace the PNP Switch with Pictures? How long does it take to do this kind of work?
Thanks.

[AWD] [850] [1995] lost all instrumentation lights last night -posted by- REP

How do I go about doing that? Do I have to tear the dash apart, etc.? Just an FYI - I've never touched the sliding dimmer before, it has always been on full since I've owned the car? Does the dimmer have its own seperate fuse? If so, I don't recall seeing one. Thanks. I look forward to the replies, here.

[AWD] [850] [1995] lost all instrumentation lights last night -posted by- REP

Here is a new one on me. It happened last night for the first time. Started car turned on the lights completely, started to drive and within 30 seconds I lost all dash lights and complete center cpnsole lights. The first thing I did was check all of the fuses out in the engine compartment just behind the driver side firewall area. All seem okay. What do I do now. I sure would like to get them back running again. I look forward to the replies. Many thanks.

[AWD] [850] [1995] rear cam seals are leaking -posted by- REP

Well, I guess as I continue to fix/replace old with the new, it was bound to happen. The rear cam seals after 260K have started to leak and it seams that it is not a small leak at that. I drive between 600 - 800 miles per week and have to replace about a quart or so every week of oil. I went out and got the seals, now I need instructions/tools information as to whether I'll be able to do this myself.
Is there instructions with pics online? If so, where? What tools, etc will be needed? How much time should I allow for doing this type of work? I have never done this before.
Looking forward to the replies.

[AWD] [850] [1995] multiple small issues -posted by- REP

First issue - Front Driver Side Wiper Arm when in use and coming up the window lifts off the window with about 4" to 5" remaining to clear. Why is this happening? How to fix?

Second issue - rear backup lights stopped working, but dash light does not indicate them being out. Check bulbs and they are in working order. What could be causing this to happen? How to fix?

Third issue - Evap Canister Error code 315. Comes spuratically from time to time. How to resolve this besides keep clearing the error codes at the A/B switch in engine compartment.

Fourth issue - just changed the temp sensor in the air box, now it seems that the engine is getting plenty of clean air now, seems peppier of a ride, but fuel economy went back down by about 4 miles to the gallon. Why? How to resolve this issue? How to know if the temp unit is actually working in the air box?

Look forward to the replies, Thanks.

You are talking the PNP Switch harnness connection, correct. I check the fluid level constantly. It is full and still nice and red. Yesterday it did smell hot though.

Would you know where I can get a new Diag unit for the 95 Volvo 850 unit? My "A" unit the wire came undone from the unit and the plug. So I need to get a new one.

Thanks.

[AWD] transmission error code 323 -posted by- REP

Just went on a trip up north for about 80 miles on the highway and the flashing arrow shows up on the dash. Just checked error code under A1 slot for the transmission and I got an 323 - wrong gear value. What does this mean? What do I have to check out or service? This transmission only has 6K on it since I put it in the car. Original miles on it were 136K. This is a replacement transmission for the one I had that went 252K before it died.

Help. Thanks.
