Easier idea is to get a long clear plastic pipe of approx 1/2"ID from home depot etc . Put one end in the fill hole and attach other end to a funnel . if you think it will slip then tape the pipe to car and also insert around 7-8 " in the transmission (Needless to say everything should be very clean ). You can also cut a hole in bottle cap , seal it and use it as funnel. That way your funnel is also almost spill proof . Get out from under the car and fill through funnel. You can use this to fill through drain hole also if you wrap some tape etc around the pipe and make a tight leak proof connection.%0D%0A%0D%0AIf it is auto then check FAQ for flushing the transmission. That is also easy.%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A--%0D%0ADD-1990 240 DL SW M47II FI 3.1 234 K miles http://www.brickboard.com/CLUBS/volvo/1338561/easier_way_change_transmission_fluid.html?rss=1 Wed, 18 Mar 2009 18:53 GMT Easier way to change the transmission fluid? -posted by- MikeF117 Im trying to change the transmission fluid on my 1987 240dl volvo. Ive found the fill plug and the drain plug ( both at really awkward spots) but what exactly or where do you find an object to inject the fluid into the fill plug? A book said to use a very larg seringe, so I went with a turkey baster and it wouldnt fit or create enough pressure to inject the fluid into it. I went and got a medicine drop for babies ( they gave me a 5 mil. seringe ) but its just crazy took me a half hour to just get a 6th of the quart in. Any ideas or easier procedures of doing this would be a huge help. You can select it from the shortcut menu at the top right of your screen or by this <a href="http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?model=200">LINK</a>.%0D%0A%0D%0AIt's important to know what kind of transmission you are dealing with. Sounds like you're working with a manual transmission. I believe the preferred method for filling is to either use a <a href="http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=3878">Transfer Pump</a> or a funnel connected to a length of clear plastic tubing. The latter is tricky to do unless you have a helper, one person to pour from above in the engine bay and another to hold the hose to make sure it doesn't come out of the filler hole.%0D%0A%0D%0ABest of luck,%0D%0AWill http://www.brickboard.com/CLUBS/volvo/1338560/easier_way_change_transmission_fluid.html?rss=1 Wed, 18 Mar 2009 18:52 GMT Looking at Starting a Northeast Indiana Volvo Club -posted by- Indiana Brick Let me know when your back in Indiana so we can meet and talk about starting the local chapter. The first day I bought it, it stalled as I was pulling away from a two-way stop. I had to wait (without trying to start it) for about 5 minutes and then it started again. Since I purchased it, I have discovered that if I turn it off and try to start it within approximately 5-10 minutes afterwards, it will turn over but not start. When it does finally start, I have to hold the accelerator down to keep it from stalling again. Once I take off, I still have to be careful (by pushing down the accelerator again) for about 5-10 minutes or a few miles. I am open to any suggestions as well. Good Luck. http://www.brickboard.com/CLUBS/volvo/1336544/1987_240_dl_volvo_help.html?rss=1 Mon, 9 Mar 2009 04:59 GMT 1987 240 DL Volvo HELP!! -posted by- MikeF117 I just bought a 1987 240 DL volvo not to long ago. Things that are broken mechanicially don't fix themselves and then re-break themselves. If it's broken, it stay's broken. I would check the overdrive relay for cold solder joints, and dirty contacts. I have re-soldered virtually every relay board on mine (1985 245 GL) and everything now works as advertised. If this does not correct your problem, take a look at the overdrive solenoid (and the related wiring). You should look at the transmission fluid, and if it's really that dirty, drain and replace the fluid.%0D%0A%0D%0A http://www.brickboard.com/CLUBS/volvo/1215361/93_240_wagon_fourth_gear_wont_work_problem.html?rss=1 Mon, 10 Sep 2007 00:37 GMT 93 240 wagon fourth gear wont work -posted by- laurahami I have a 93 240 wagon. The other day I was driving on highway at 70mph and the fourth gear went out, I could hear the car obviously in third, pressed the OD on side of gear, light came on but nothing happened. Let car rest for about 10min. and got back on highway without a problem. Next day things were fine, the car shifted like a champ and my OD was working normal. Next day in town began not shifting into fourth gear, around 40mph. Went to get oil changed and told mechanic about it, he said I need a new transmission, I'm weary about spending a $1000.00 when it could be electrical, since the problem is not consistent at all. He also said the trans. fluid was black. Old volvo mechanic in Denver had to fix a problem with the white box back behind glovebox, something about a slight crack on the pane. %0D%0AAny advice on how to save my baby 240 with only 100,000 miles. %0D%0A http://www.brickboard.com/CLUBS/volvo/1213892/93_240_wagon_fourth_gear_wont_work_problem.html?rss=1 Tue, 4 Sep 2007 22:34 GMT 1966 volvo 122/amazon road course car questions -posted by- mportracer07 hi there!%0D%0A%0D%0Ai live in the U.S.A. and have always loved bmw, audi, volvo etc. i have found what i believe to be, and was told by the owner ...one of three us 1966 volvo 122/ amazon race cars. the previous owner said his uncle bought the car in the late sixties, or early seventies. i have no clue of how to track the history of this car. i was told that the factory/dealership built this car, and stamped a seriel # on the b pillar on the roll cage, and that tag is still there. i was also told that there is no title for the car. there is a tag on the cowl that has multipe #'s, but i have no resources to research said #'s. this car was originally powder blue with dodge rims( which i have) it also is only wired for tail lights, it has a smith tach, in the dash, four wheel disk brakes, and also the entire 3 peice front clip is fiberglass.%0D%0A%0D%0A i guess the question i have, is did i find a piece of volvo racing history, or some guys old toy? i would love to put the car back to the way it came, but again i have no way to know what it looked like, what #,or who the driver was.%0D%0A%0D%0Aany info would be great.%0D%0A %0D%0A %0D%0A %0D%0Agarrett%0D%0A http://www.brickboard.com/CLUBS/volvo/1200666/1966_volvo_122amazon_road_course_car_questions.html?rss=1 Thu, 19 Jul 2007 19:03 GMT 1966 volvo 122/amazon road course car questions -posted by- volvo15 The number on the cage is a SCCA ID number like 19-007, the first number is the area the car was raced in,you can check with SCCA and find out what club issued that number, then contact that club, SCCA issued numbers starting in 1971. The problem began when the alternator belt broke and caused the power steering belt to come off, well the belt is designed to cover the fan and crankshaft and back to the power steering pump. Well I've done all the right steps to loosen the bolts and tension belt, move it forward, but again the belt is too short. The problem I have is the original belt was thrown away, before I could get the sizing. I've been working with a belt that is 11.9x1013, but it's too small. Anyone have this problem with their car? I would send a picture if anyone needs to see the diagram. %0D%0A%0D%0AThanks, Alfonzo http://www.brickboard.com/CLUBS/volvo/1200301/vbelt_size_volvo_740_glenon_turbo_power_streering_belt.html?rss=1 Wed, 18 Jul 2007 18:54 GMT Restaurant info for Volvo meet -posted by- Jorrell Has anyone else RSVP'd? I wanted to let everyone know that I took as many things into consideration as I could when trying to set up a time and a place for us to meet. I would like for everyone who is willing to meet at Mac's in Charlotte on Saturday July 14th at 6:00pm. For anyone that has never been, this is a really cool restuarant with plenty of outdoor seating, and if we get there early enough we can beat out the motorcycle crowd for the good parking out front so everyone can see our rides!%0D%0A%0D%0AI think this will be a real good time for everyone, plus we have a lot of things to discuss. Part of what I've been checking on during this time is what would be required to start our own VCOA chapter, if we chose to do so. What I found out was that VCOA is looking for someone to take over the NC chapter, currently in Cary, NC. I'm really wanting to do this, and think it would be cool for us to join up and inject a little life into the existing, but sagging group. But, like I said, I would like to discuss that with everyone first. %0D%0A%0D%0AIf you guys have any questions, please feel free to contact me at wostover@bellsouth.net .
