VA inspected until 9/08. %0D%0A%0D%0AStandard tune up done (plugs, cap, rotor, wires, filters, fluids), plus a brake job (master cylinder and pads--the rotors and calipers checked out fine). I've also gone over the electrical system (cleaned connections, fuse box, redid some bad wiring, put in some new relays). It took a while to get all the lights working right, but they're reliable now. %0D%0A%0D%0AIt's currently a 4-speed stick shift. The clutch is original, but feels great. It has the push button overdrive, but needs a new solenoid. (The wiring and relay send 12 volts to the solenoid, but no OD). AC there but non functional. Great heat and a nice quiet blower motor.%0D%0A%0D%0AIt's always been reliable for me, and I don't see why it wouldn't be in the future. Sometimes it runs a little rough the first 30 seconds or so after a cold start, but great after that (I suspect it's that the O2 sensor is the old fashioned unheated variety). There's a bit of rust starting in the floor pans, and the spare tire well is just barely hanging on, but it's nothing that would keep it from passing its next VA inspection. It could go for new shocks/struts/bushings at some point, but it's nothing urgent. That's all the bad stuff I can think of. It's surprisingly fast (B23/M46/short rear end combo), and gets pretty good gas mileage too (in the 25-30mpg range).%0D%0A%0D%0AE-mail me with questions or for pictures. It is a few inches longer than the 140's to accomodate the six cyl. motor and always turns heads. This car has a 4 speed manual gearbox which is quite rare and very desireable. The synchros could use refreshing as she will sometimes pop out of third gear, but the box is small and manageable for rebuild if necessary. %0D%0A%0D%0AThe car was restored in 1992 by an old volvo expert at PEACO towing in Richmond. This place has since changed hands and I don't think the folks there deal with volvos as a specialty anymore though they may have a few cars on hand as a parts resource. at the time the car was stripped to bare metal and painted, the motor was replaced, and the interior swapped out. The seats are red vinyl (from a period 144) and are servicable to excellent. The carpet (grey) has faded but is clean and not torn. the headliner is white and in good shape. %0D%0A%0D%0AThe body has rust spots at the base of each rear wheelarch where it meets the rocker panel. Otherwise it is in terrific shape. The floorpans are perfect and the sheetmetal elsewhere is with out bondo or BS. The rust/peeling paint in the photo is only superficial. The front valence on these cars is an alloy which requires a certain primer for proper paint adhesion. This was not used and therfore has peeled over the last 15 years. The car would look really sweet with new paint but is clean from a distance (a 20 footer, as the fella on the lot says) %0D%0A%0D%0AI haven't had the car on the road officially in years though I have kept it registered and insured as an antique just in case. New transmission mount. Not rusty. Front lighting is good, one headlight a bit cloudy, but working. The cam is new in the box, never installed. The VX grind is nice for the street. Idle is largely unaffected, but the pulling power on top is greatly increased. He had originally sold them to a woman, who, after driving her 740 wagon for a week with the Bilsteins, brought her car back to him and told him the ride was too stiff. So, the shocks have one weeks worth of useage. Almost new. I've been storing them in a horizontal position ever since I bought them. Except for a bit of light rust on the cartridge's posts, which should come off easily with some steel wool, they look new.%0D%0A%0D%0AIPD shows fitment for this shocks as all 700s/900s from 1985 to 1995. I didn't think the rear shocks would fit cars with IRS, but I guess I'm wrong. I had a previous 240 wagon that was driven for 300,000+ miles. The interior and exterior are my favorites available for the 240 series. Unlike the pleather found in a lot of 240’s, this cloth interior will last forever if taken care of! This car was found on the East Coast and was garaged over the salty, Indiana winters. You will not find a 240 in the Midwest with a better, rust-free body. This car is a non-smokers car all the way. If you are not familiar with the Volvo 240, please check out sites like www.brickboard.com, ipdusa.com, and their forums. These cars are easily maintained and if taken care will run for 300K+ miles. This car has a dime size spot of surface rust starting on the lower front driver door and the gas-guage does NOT show true amount (the nut needs to be tightened down on back of instrument panel). The Independent Rear Suspension was recently replaced @ Volvo ($2700) along with a new paint job (VOLVO-GRAY). It has a new Exhuast (header all the way to the tail pipe) from Lentz.
