The drivers seat is locked in a truly uncomfortable position (driver side died shortly after I bought her in January), and since the leather is cracked to hell and gone, I am looking for replacements. The bench also could use a new back since it's latch to lower it broke, and I haven't had any luck in fixing it/finding a replacement. %0D%0A%0D%0ASo I come to you my friends.%0D%0A%0D%0AI live in central Ohio (Columbus), so if you have a parts car with decent seats OR in your meanderings, spot a set at a yard near me (my own efforts have proved fruitless, though if I had a 700, I would have an abundance :P) and could let me know, I'd love to hear from you. I'd prefer cloth personally (leather gets so damn cold), and working seat heaters would be a nice change with winter coming on. Safety is #1 priority, thus the Volvo. We are having a heckuva time figuring out which model/year to buy, however. Our Volvo mechanic swears by the 940 (reliable, runs forever, easy to work on, etc.) but they are extremely hard to come by. We've searched for weeks and weeks. We've found a few, taken 2 in for a 'buyers inspection' and both have come up with more than $1000 in repairs needed and the sellers were both $1000 OVER blue book, so we'd essentially be paying $2000 too much (about twice what the car is worth!). %0D%0A%0D%0ASo, we're starting to cast a wider net: 960, S series, C series, etc. Reading the reviews of the 960's have made us think twice about those (but perhaps those of you who don't like yours got lemons?), and can't find much about the others. %0D%0A%0D%0AMY QUESTION: What can you all recommend in terms of models and years that are good and reliable, for between $5000 and $7000?? A 940 of any vintage would be a great car for you or your sons. I like the '94 and '95 vintage myself because they offer dual front airbags and the sips(side impact protection system). I might not be impartial though as I own a '94 940 turbo wagon. This car has 184,000 miles on it and runs like a top and has been very reliable. It is hard to beat a B230 engine or the AW series transmissions for dependability. For the money you are looking to spend it you should be able to find a 940 in superb condition. Do not let higher mileage cars scare you away. Check for maintenance records and condition of the car to help guide you. I would take a high mileage one owner car with records over one with no records and low miles. %0D%0A%0D%0AAvoid the 960's if you can due to more electronics and model specific parts. I owned one of the '93 960 lemons a few years back and will never own another. If you can you do any of the repairs there will be much money to be saved on maintenance. What did the buyers inspections find wrong with the cars? Good luck with your purchase! It strikes me that both the Kelley Blue Book ($2500-$3000) and Edmunds values ($1500-$2000) seem low compared to what people are prepared to pay. In this particular case, three people who haven't seen the car have bid up to $3550 already. Are they just crazy or are the book values on the low side? They claim to apply to cars in "Excellent" condition, "in which category less than 5% of cars fall".%0D%0A%0D%0AOf course, what's a fair price has a lot to do with the specifics of the car. So here goes, starting from a perfect car, this is what's visibly below that standard:%0D%0A%0D%0A- History (bills etc.) only from second and third (current) owner, nothing from first. I live in Charlotte, NC and interested in trying to get a group of folks together for fellowship and and a little partnership when it comes to our cars. After talking with some other fellows I met locally, we are pondering the possible charter or local VCOA chapter. There are a lot of fellow owners in this neck of the woods, the problem seems to be getting the word out. If you guys know of anyone that lives in the area that may be interested, please direct them this way. If there is anyone out there in the metro Charlotte NC area or upstate South Carolina, please feel free to respond. I would love to start our own little group and see what we can do with it!%0D%0A%0D%0AHope to hear from you guys soon,%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0AWellington Stover%0D%0Awostover@bellsouth.net http://www.brickboard.com/BUYERS/volvo/1182431/charlotte_area_volvo_owners_group.html?rss=1 Fri, 11 May 2007 16:16 GMT Charlotte Area Volvo Owners Group -posted by- bluePV544 No,there is not. Everything from the 122's to the S80's have graced my driveway at one time or another. Since a couple of folks have actually bought vehicles from me here, I thought I would provide a brief synopsis of the vehicles I have at the moment.%0D%0A%0D%0AThis will be done no more than once a month and will only be listed here. %0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A1997 Volvo 960 Wagon (VIN# YV1KW9606V1038847 - Burgundy) - $3500%0D%0A%0D%0AThis 960 Wagon was extensively maintained by Nalley Volvo (45 records in all). The top end of the engine was rebuilt by Nalley Volvo at 155k and the transmission was replaced at 166k. The interior is in excellent condition. The exterior looks nice but it does have scratches and dents that are commensurate with a vehicle that has 175k. It's remained in Georgia for it's entire life and has a perfect Carfax & Autocheck report. You can view the Autocheck report and four pictures of the vehicle on the Craigslist link below.%0D%0A%0D%0Ahttps://post.craigslist.org/manage/306526228/qsztt%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A1994 Volvo 940 Turbo Wagon (VIN# YV1JW9317R1118666 - Black) - $2000%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0AThis 940 Turbo wagon was also maintained at Nalley Volvo (16 records in all). The leather is free of rips, tears, or fade and the door panels don't have the scrunched up trim on top that usually occurs with mid-90's Volvos from the Southeast. The owner put a 200k emblem on the front grille (209k overall) and it will probably reach 210k since I drive it about two to three times a week. It does have wear on the hood as well as minor scratches on the side. A/C works perfectly as does the sunroof and the premium sound system with Blaupunkt CD player. It had a 'moderate' accident back in 1995 and it can be seen here under the Craigslist link below%0D%0A%0D%0Ahttp://atlanta.craigslist.org/car/307140837.html%0D%0A%0D%0A2000 Volvo V70 SE Wagon (VIN# YV1LW61JXY2643777 - Navy Blue) - $6500%0D%0A%0D%0AWe took this one on a 2000 mile road trip last December to visit family and friends. It averaged 30.5 MPG which MAY be a gallon or so off, but in 50/50 town/city driving my wife has registered a consistent 25-26 mpg average. Over 15 pages of records from Gwinnett Place Volvo come with the V70 SE and the 105k maintenance was done by Northpoint Volvo which includes the often overlooked valve adjustment. It's immaculate. The only defect we've experienced is that rear tailgate sensor which Volvo still doesn't want to acknowledge as a trouble-prone item, but the tailgate closes perfectly and everything else is in perfect working order. This wagon was in one accident back in 2001 which Carfax describes as 'slight' and Autocheck describes as 'minor'.%0D%0A%0D%0Ahttp://atlanta.craigslist.org/car/294996192.html%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A1998 Volvo V70 Wagon (VIN# YV1lW558XW2445277 - Red) - $5000%0D%0A%0D%0AThis V70 was owned by a family that apparently had a member involved with Congress since the initial lienholder was the Congressional Federal Creidt Union. It was used a family commuter judging by the three names that were on the title, and was maintained every 10k either at a Volvo dealership or a Volvo specialist in Georgia (154k miles overall). The paint and interior on the wagon is gorgeous. In fact my sister-in-law thought I had purchased a brand new one when we drove it up to New York to attend a Bat Mitzvah. It is a non-turbo, has Michelins all the way around, and has a perfect Carfax and Autocheck record. %0D%0A%0D%0Ahttp://atlanta.craigslist.org/car/305530668.html%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A1989 Volvo 240 GL Wagon - (VIN# YV1AX8850K1814364 - Sky Blue) - $2000%0D%0A%0D%0AThanks to very heavy tint and a diligent prior owner, this 240 is in very good mechanical and cosmetic condition. The leather seats have virtually no fade, and evenrything from the power windows to the heated seats are working exactly as they should. There has been close to $2000 put into it over the past couple of years. The fellow who owned it actually spent over a half hour with me talking about the vehicle and obviously put a lot of care into it. The odometer is showing 157k, but that's optomistic. The fellow told me they drove it approximately 50k miles in the last five years, so I would estimate mileage to be over 200k. The Carfax and Autocheck history is perfect. %0D%0A%0D%0Ahttp://atlanta.craigslist.org/car/305532114.html%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0AThese postings will go on the Brickboard no more than once a month. The prices I post here are firm. But as you can see with my Craigslist listings, I provide Autocheck records on every vehicle as well as a very detailed description. I do it because it makes life easy, and honest, for everyone. By the way, this combination helped me attain a 100% positive feedback rating on Ebay for over four years.%0D%0A%0D%0AI can be reached at steven.lang@duke.edu or at (770) 262-9880. I drove it back to the east coast in Fredericton, New Brunswick to find that the diesel was too difficult to keep warm in our winters. This is a 6 cylinder automatic, 4-door sedan, less common to find than the Volvo 240 they also made in the early 80s. It has 197 500kms and still runs fine. A good looking car, nice metalic burgundy finish with beige interior (looks very similar to picture bellow).
