My 4-door, 1988 Volvo 240 GL was hit by a hit-and-run driver on the passenger side, pushing in the pillar 8-9" and destroying the passenger front door, and damaging the passenger R door. Well Gretta (My '88 245) decided to have the adjustment knobs on both her front seats disintegrate on me in these last couple months. The drivers seat is locked in a truly uncomfortable position (driver side died shortly after I bought her in January), and since the leather is cracked to hell and gone, I am looking for replacements. The bench also could use a new back since it's latch to lower it broke, and I haven't had any luck in fixing it/finding a replacement. %0D%0A%0D%0ASo I come to you my friends.%0D%0A%0D%0AI live in central Ohio (Columbus), so if you have a parts car with decent seats OR in your meanderings, spot a set at a yard near me (my own efforts have proved fruitless, though if I had a 700, I would have an abundance :P) and could let me know, I'd love to hear from you. I'd prefer cloth personally (leather gets so damn cold), and working seat heaters would be a nice change with winter coming on. I am a college student saving up for grad school and can't offer too much, but will give you the fairest price I can. %0D%0A%0D%0AOn a side note, I also need replacement door pockets, and am also looking for an after market luggage rack cheap.

Ever since I saw a beautiful little green Volvo 122s parked down the street, I have wanted to sell my brand new (year old) car and get one. I have convinced myself it is a bad idea since I am a broke student on my own and don't know much about cars. But this little car has been stuck in my head for awhile now. We need an old, reliable Volvo for our teenaged boys to drive. Safety is #1 priority, thus the Volvo. We are having a heckuva time figuring out which model/year to buy, however. Our Volvo mechanic swears by the 940 (reliable, runs forever, easy to work on, etc.) but they are extremely hard to come by. We've searched for weeks and weeks. We've found a few, taken 2 in for a 'buyers inspection' and both have come up with more than $1000 in repairs needed and the sellers were both $1000 OVER blue book, so we'd essentially be paying $2000 too much (about twice what the car is worth!). %0D%0A%0D%0ASo, we're starting to cast a wider net: 960, S series, C series, etc. Reading the reviews of the 960's have made us think twice about those (but perhaps those of you who don't like yours got lemons?), and can't find much about the others. %0D%0A%0D%0AMY QUESTION: What can you all recommend in terms of models and years that are good and reliable, for between $5000 and $7000?? A 940 of any vintage would be a great car for you or your sons. I like the '94 and '95 vintage myself because they offer dual front airbags and the sips(side impact protection system). I might not be impartial though as I own a '94 940 turbo wagon. This car has 184,000 miles on it and runs like a top and has been very reliable. It is hard to beat a B230 engine or the AW series transmissions for dependability. For the money you are looking to spend it you should be able to find a 940 in superb condition. Do not let higher mileage cars scare you away. Check for maintenance records and condition of the car to help guide you. I would take a high mileage one owner car with records over one with no records and low miles. %0D%0A%0D%0AAvoid the 960's if you can due to more electronics and model specific parts. I owned one of the '93 960 lemons a few years back and will never own another. If you can you do any of the repairs there will be much money to be saved on maintenance. I went to have a look at it, liked it, and took it through the local Volvo dealer's "24-point vehicle safety inspection". I'm considering putting a bid in (it's on eBay), but as I'm new to 780s, and despite the excellent advice I've found both on this board and on Eric de la Cruz's 780 Information Site, I'd appreciate some advice on a couple of points.%0D%0A%0D%0A1) "How much is a fair price?" It strikes me that both the Kelley Blue Book ($2500-$3000) and Edmunds values ($1500-$2000) seem low compared to what people are prepared to pay. In this particular case, three people who haven't seen the car have bid up to $3550 already. Are they just crazy or are the book values on the low side? They claim to apply to cars in "Excellent" condition, "in which category less than 5% of cars fall".%0D%0A%0D%0AOf course, what's a fair price has a lot to do with the specifics of the car. So here goes, starting from a perfect car, this is what's visibly below that standard:%0D%0A%0D%0A- History (bills etc.) only from second and third (current) owner, nothing from first. I've been a Volvo afficionado for quite a while now. Everything from the 122's to the S80's have graced my driveway at one time or another. Since a couple of folks have actually bought vehicles from me here, I thought I would provide a brief synopsis of the vehicles I have at the moment.%0D%0A%0D%0AThis will be done no more than once a month and will only be listed here. %0D%0A%0D%0A%0D%0A1997 Volvo 960 Wagon (VIN# YV1KW9606V1038847 - Burgundy) - $3500%0D%0A%0D%0AThis 960 Wagon was extensively maintained by Nalley Volvo (45 records in all). The top end of the engine was rebuilt by Nalley Volvo at 155k and the transmission was replaced at 166k. The interior is in excellent condition. The exterior looks nice but it does have scratches and dents that are commensurate with a vehicle that has 175k. It's remained in Georgia for it's entire life and has a perfect Carfax & Autocheck report. The owner put a 200k emblem on the front grille (209k overall) and it will probably reach 210k since I drive it about two to three times a week. It does have wear on the hood as well as minor scratches on the side. A/C works perfectly as does the sunroof and the premium sound system with Blaupunkt CD player. The fellow who owned it actually spent over a half hour with me talking about the vehicle and obviously put a lot of care into it. The odometer is showing 157k, but that's optomistic. The fellow told me they drove it approximately 50k miles in the last five years, so I would estimate mileage to be over 200k. I purchased this car last summer in Victoria BC, Canada. I drove it back to the east coast in Fredericton, New Brunswick to find that the diesel was too difficult to keep warm in our winters. This is a 6 cylinder automatic, 4-door sedan, less common to find than the Volvo 240 they also made in the early 80s. It has 197 500kms and still runs fine. A good looking car, nice metalic burgundy finish with beige interior (looks very similar to picture bellow). New battery and glow plugs, good tires, cd player, but does have a minor oil leak. %0D%0AAsking $3200 CAN obo.

I have a genuine Volvo 240 floor pan for sale. Also two Volvo 240 DL wagons an 86 with accident damage partially repaired and an 88 or 89 with no rust or damage. The 86 had a good engine and tranny. The 89 is in need of engine and tranny work. You can put both or either together. Also have 1990 B280 engine from a Bertone that had 40k on it. Fully dressed. Also have AW71 from same car.
