replacing aftermarket radio back to stock in 240

The 1990 240 wagon I recently bought had an aftermarket radio in it that was stolen(from the previous owner). My first instict was to replace it with a stock 240 radio, yet the car audio installer keeps insisting that it is more trouble than its worth as the amplifier in the car has been bypassed. I have an '86 volvo tape deck that I would most prefer to put it in but have no idea how to connect it. Has anyone had this problem? Should I just give up and throw a cd deck in it?

Thanks in advance for any help.
