Often those tachs on eBay are called a "kit" in which case they include the small clock and the little wiring harness to power and light the clock. That harness plugs into the trio of male spade terminals (pins, as you call them) at the top rear of the tach. The remaining male spade near the bottom of the tach is where you plug in the wire carrying the signal from the ignition that drives the tach. Your car is pre-wired for this - look for a loose wire terminated by a female spade behind the cluster after you pull it. It's usually red/white, as on our 83, but it was inside a gray sleeve.
