Crossing the US/Canada border with parts 120-130 1965

A knowledgeable and alert customs official on the Canadian side may ask who you are visiting and could ask your host to pay the Good and Services Tax (GST 7%) and depending on the province, an additional Provincial Sales Tax (PST 8% in Ontario). Do not admit these are for resale and say that you are not involved in any commercial endeavour. I'd suggest you call these spares or say they are a gift for your Canadian host. Should have no problems coming into Canada, but I cannot comment on your USA return other than follow the American declaration rules that apply on any return trip to the USA.

One last thing, do not admit that the parts are made in Sweden, otherwise an 18% Canadian import duty could apply - Sweden is not a preferred trading partner according to HAFTA. I have purchased parts from CVI Automotive in Sweden and in addition to the 15% taxes, Canada Customs charged me the additional 18% - ouch!

I believe that zero tax or duties on antique auto parts only applies if the parts are 100 years old. I brought a bumper for my 1960 Amazon-S back to Canada and was charged the 15% taxes- not antique by Canada Customs standards!

As an aside, last spring I was returning to Canada from a trip to Holland, returning directly from Amsterdam to Montreal. My suitcase was X-rayed and a pair of PV444 hood "swallow" emblems looked suspiciously like a Ninja throwing weapon. Fortunately the Dutch inspector was my age and when I asked if he remembered the PV444 hood emblem, he said "have a good trip".
